I am thinking about different ways the cage affects striking.
If you are against cage, and opponent throws straight or jab, and you slip it, wont his punch end up hitting the wall? Have you even seen this happen? When throwing for power you aim for back of head. A cage or wall seems like a deterrent to striking for max power.
Sometimes I see both in clinch and each have one side pressed against wall or cage. If you overshoot your hook, then you also might hit the wall. And you wont be able to throw the hooks from side touching the cage or wall. Also cannot throw low kick from the side against the cage.
In boxing, you have ropes only, so you dont worry about accidently hitting something harder than your bones. But even in boxing, when you are in the corner there is certain way of fighting. There are even some specialist who do most of their work in the corners because it is a different kind of game. I think we ought to see talk about MMA in the same light. Please add what you will.
