If Askren can make bank for One and retire young with no serious injuries, good for him.

Rich Franklin is a decent human being and has the capacity to care for other people. He'll never have Dana's job, he's automatically disqualified

It is definitely good for him

I just wish he'd stop saying he's the GOAT when he's never beat a single top 10 (or even 15?) fighter ever. I'm happy for the guy for making his money and keeping his health, though. Not a lot of MMA fighters come away with both

    Great quote
Filthy Tom said he really wants to experience MMA in different countries, now that he is able to.

Fake news. Another bought and paid for article from the crooked jabronis at OneFC. Reminds me of the puff piece that declared Angela Lee the "Mike Tyson of MMA". Sad!

Years ago in an education class in grad school, a fellow teacher was lamenting about how MMA has caused her kids to fight more often in the playground.

Our professor pushed back and said he really enjoyed watching the UFC because (at the time) fighyers were really respectful of each other both before and after the fight. There was a level of respect that he saw that was not seen in other sports.

Back in 2006, i agreed with him.

During contemporary times, I doubt he would see it the same way.

Franklin shilling for the company he works for big time.

ONE FC wishes it was the UFC of Asia. Too bad it's not.

In case people are interested, this is their Sina Weibo (Chinese equivalent of Twitter/Instagram) numbers:

386017 is the number of people watching their page. In comparison, UFC doubles their numbers of fans at 640k:

Both are not very good. In comparison, the most popular Japanese porn star in China, Sora Aoi, has almost 18.5 million fans (over 10 million on Weibo is the equivalent of A-level status):

If you can't even break into the Chinese market, you aren't shit in Asia, let alone a regional monopoly. This is number 1 bullshit.

It's not his fault he wasn't allowed to test himself against the best.

Now, if he balked, I'd agree with you.

In other news, I would have loved to have seen Teofilo Stevenson fight Ali and Josh Gibson play for the Yankees.

Most first through third gen fighters had backgrounds in TMAs that focused on that kind of self cultivation. Imo this is the most valuable thing martial arts brings to the table, beyond even the ability to strangle a grown man unconscious at any time. There are a lot of issues that face every generation and they would be better off with a mantra of constant self improvement and physical confidence.

Currently though you have people just going to gyms for MMA which is akin to going to a boxing class. Most dudes that get into boxing want to do it to be a badass and light people up, which completely misses the point. If you train solely for the focus of beating people up and looking good, you've lost out on the best part. If that's how MMA gyms are going (and I have no reason to doubt they aren't) then it's a loss for everyone.

I mean, if he really wanted to fight in the UFC, he definitely could have. He made more money in ONE and that's good for him, but he definitely could have fought in the UFC or even stayed in Bellator.

But again: good for him. He's got health and wealth.

But he's nowhere near GOAT status and trying to say otherwise is really not necessary.

As far as I'm concerned, it can go straight into a UFC monopoly since ONE removed knees and kicks to the head of a grounded fighter.
