Just joined a boxing gym after having to train on my own (previously there weren't any gyms near me). Didn't pick up any really huge bad habits. I keep my hands up, eyes on the target, and throw with moderately decent form.

Anyways, first day ever in a boxing gym was yesterday. It was tough, as expected. Lots of bag and pad work, lots of ab exercises. Burned quite a few calories, also as expected.

However, one thing I have a problem with is that I seem to stay stationary when hitting the heavy bag. I know I'm supposed to be, but I just don't know WHERE or HOW to move around the bag effectively, especially if it's swinging around wildly (snapping punch or not, how the bags are hung makes them swing too much).

What are some tips for improving footwork around the heavy bag? I'm pretty much built to be an inside fighter (5'11", 220+, short arms, big back, strong), so I definitely need good footwork and head movement to get inside and open up.
