Dwight Eisenhower is the greatest President

You know what? Move this to the Mayberry if you have to. This is a popular opinion basically

-Soldier, volunteered for infantry but was denied. Was promoted to Brigadier General at the height of WW2
-Persnally led the defeat of the Nazis. Seriously. This is the guy who beat them. He was the commander of the U.S. Armed Forces
-2 Term President = Big Dick Energy
-Created Highways
-Leader of America at the Absolute Height of its Power
-Deep dicked the media. Held over 200 press conferences where he would explain his elaborate plans for America. AND THEN HE DID IT
-Diffused McCarthyism. honestly, this alone puts him in goat contention. He managed to keep America anti communist without allowing the anti communists to destroy America with a mad power grab and witch hunt. Seriously underrated, maybe his second best achievement after highways.
-Quite literally no enemies or detractors. His worst insult was he "did nothing". MOTHERFUCKER BUILT HIGHWAYS

GOAT

he was a republican. i have already seen a few negative videos on him over the past few months. in 5 years they will have him somewhere below jimmy carter who is now benefitting from revisionist history and being looked at in a new light by some

Todays republicans would have nothing to do with him and I’m not sure he’d want anything to do with them.

He also mentored JFK when the younger man took office and the two would often be on the phone together, not many people know this.
JFK affectionately called him general.

He was definitely a one of the better presidents. Back when conservatism meant something other than theocracy and unbridled corporatism.

Nixon was another Republican who instigated many policies that actually benefited America (until, you know).

In before the trumpers claim the mango molestor as the greatest...

He definitely would not. He hated conservatives, isolationists, and CTers, and it was mutual.

From a letter to his brother:

Should any political party attempt to abolish Social Security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are H. L. Hunt … a few other Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or businessman from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid.

He also refused to talk about McCarthy (the Trumpiest politician of his time) because he didn't want to give him attention. And then he allowed the release of the Schine report, which brought him down (and fucked Trump's mentor Roy Cohn).

Before Trump was elected, I remember having a conversation with a mentor of mine (actually met Cohn) and was like you know, it should trouble us all that we have a guy running who was mentored by Roy Cohn. She said aint that the truth, that guy was the fucking worst.

GOAT POTUS

Weird, Crackedy-style post, but he was pretty good. Also deserves credit for delaying the takeover of the GOP by the conservative movement (didn't want to run, but he was talked into it to stop Taft).
Sniffs

Thank you sir

Best compliment I ever receive

He wasn't like a conservative in any modern day sense. He is from a different era for sure. He integrated the Armed Forces loved taxes and did lots of socialist projects. If readers dont think highways are socialist, they're idiots and would probably have us all paying a fee to drive around.

Honestly pretty sad 75% of the posts were about him being a Republican or not. No one really talked about his actual accomplishments. Which i guess mirrors present day society but is just unbelievably sad.

We aren't even smart enough to analyze our own leaders' policies, all that matters is what team they were on. He was alive 100 years ago, the political parties focus on different things now. But people should be smart enough to recognize a policy by its merits.

He taxed rich ppl at 92%, that's not a Republican policy by any imagination. But you know what? Who the fuck cares! It was a different time and he was a great man.

He is up there with Lincoln in my opinion and honestly surpasses him simply because he was around for longer and accomplished more throughout his life than any American except possibly George Washington.
-Defeated Germany
-Defeated McCarthyism and Roy Cohn (underrated, could have brought us down like the soviets were brought down from within)
-Built Highways without bankrupting the country
-Continued the Space Program and helped Apollo mission. Those 4 alone puts him up there with the best leaders ever.

He also led America during its absolute peak 1953-1961.

Polk seems interesting. He campaigned that he would only run for one term. He won the nomination. He stayed true to his word and didn't run for reelection.
