Is boxing the best technique for dodging punches in a street fight?

If it is, how long to train to be effective?

pull or shuffle backwards, I think crouching or rolling are dangerous, because they susceptible to knee or leg strikes

Nah Bro...... track n field is the best way to avoid punches in a street fight. But in all seriousness, in a typical street fight if you manage to dodge or block a punch. In all likelihood you're going to be wrestling, immediately.

You really only need to get good at slipping and rolling if you want to avoid damage while staying in range to counter (or if you anticipate being in a situation where you can't back up). The best way to avoid a punch is always just to back up. Though personally I would worry very little about someone on the street reading your rolls and throwing a knee strike in after a fake hook. If you're fighting someone on the street who can do that, you fucked up a long time ago.
