Despaigne might be the worst grappler in the UFC

Bro, no.

Waldo isn't even a grappler. Slava was actually fighting who it's their specialty.

Slava survived for ages. If Chase was a HW he'd have Despaigne on the mat and finished within 2 mins lol.

Waldo literally just sat on him. If Waldo actually tried to transition and go for things like Hooper, he probably would've gotten out. People underestimate power of being a huge dude who's been in MMA for a decade plus and who happened to be like 11-1 in MMA. Even Werdum couldn't do much when Hunto decided to sit in his guard.

But we agree to disagree.

Well, Waldo did try and go for the americana. I don't know how he didn't finish that to be honest. Robelis seemed totally lost lol.

You said Gane was the worst grappler in the UFC. He's not anywhere close to the worst grappler. He's an above average grappler compared to the rest of the division. He could grapplefuck the guy who just won last night's main event.
I didn't say Gane was the worst in the UFC. Here is the post and my reply:

No that title belongs to the guy who fought just before him, Borshchev.
I have to disagree. He got rocked and defended well for a full round against an actual grappling specialist. Alex Pereira got taken down by Izzy. Gane got wrestlefucked by D1 Francis. Slava Klaus is far superior to those other kickboxers in the grappling department.

Again I was disagreeing with the assertion Slava Klaus was the worst grappler in the UFC. I mentioned two kickboxers that he seems to have better grappling defense than.

"Gane is quite possibly the worst grappler in the UFC"
Possibly but I didn't say definitely. Gane is a bag of shite for a high level championship contender in the grappling dept. Particularly with the wet paper bag TDD.

He was just someone who popped in my mind. The guy I was replying to was calling Slava the worst in the UFC in grappling and that is a massive overstatement. Plenty of guys that are far worse.

Gane is a far better grappler than either of the fighters in last night's main event. Calling him possibly the worst is absurd.

Fair enough. He is still dog shit and frankly I could see Derrick taking him down quite easily. But he isn't the "Worst Grappler" in the UFC. Even if I grant you he is a better grappler then Lewis or the Brazilian Cab Driver that's not exactly a high bar is it?

Gane would sub Lewis in a grappling match. Do you realize you're in a thread about Despaigne of all places? You didn't even think that the thread topic might be the worst grappler, you went all the way up to Gane?

Again I was responding to a comment about Slava. Gane is a bag of Shit in the grappling in MMA. Frankly I couldn't care less who Lewis vs Gane would go in a grappling only event. You realize this is MMA and not straight grappling. Worst grappler in the UFC =/= a BJJ event.

GSP might lose a wrestling match to Josh Koscheck or Jon Fitch but he is 1000 x the better wrestler in MMA.

I have agreed Gane isn't actually the worst grappler in the UFC. Lets just move on.

You're in a thread about Despaigne my guy. Did you watch his fight? Why are you thinking of Gane?

I did see parts of that fight. Frankly I didn't know who either fight was. They don't even register in my mind as UFC fighters given that they are both Regional Level guys that wouldn't be in the UFC if they didn't have a bloated roster. I don't care who the fuck Waldo or Desdemona are. Gane is a shitty grappler IMO. You clearly think he is not. Move on dude.

Nothing about Despaigne's performance was remotely surprising.

He still landed stuff on the feet, but otherwise looked like a guy who transitioned to MMA really, really late in life and was, for some reason, expected to walk through everybody with 'the death touch'.

That always sounded like a fantasy, let's be honest.

Both have dogshit grappling, we can agree on that. But Slava in my opinion, not necessarily based on Hooper fight to be fair, has the worse grappling. He didn't look bad, but people seem to assume Hooper is some great. He's probably not bad but, also people seem to assume that the guy who's 11-1 heavyweight who's 6'4, 265 pounds but relatively still athletic who has likely been training bjj over 10 years is somehow easier to reverse. It's not. Robelis is probably also lot more gifted physically than Slava is. Robelis def had no idea what he was doing though. Waldo prob didn't wanna risk nothing lol

At the end of the day, it is what it is. Good luck to the guy. It's my opinion that he's the worst, and we agree to disagree lol. I see that bunch of people disagree, but though I do agree that other fighters suggested are bad too, but Slava is the worst of them all imo. But looks like a nice guy, wish him the best lol.

And really, it's not that important lol. I will say that I will agree with you all, I've been getting quoted left and right here lol.

Yeh, I dunno, bruz.

I definitely think a HW with Hooper's skills on the mat would be harder to reverse than Costa, who is a former baseballer and boxer and hasn't really shown any impressive grappling skills.

Costa didn't want to risk anything, because he's just not some big sub threat. That said, I thought that americana was close. He should have kept going for that.

yeah but p4p doesn't really work and translate to heavyweights in real life. then some joe blow from fw might be a hw champ, you know?

He probably didn't want to risk nothing since he's not that and he prob didn't want to risk anything at all. As clueless as the other guy looked, the guy looked like a physical specimen, probably super explosive.

But truly, I wish those two guys well. I mean, yeah, if anyone thinks the other guy is worse, i will agree with you lol. Not really invested enough in either way really.

Well, put De Lima, Spivac, Jailton, Romanov, etc. on top of Despaigne like that and they're almost certainly finishing him.
