Despaigne might be the worst grappler in the UFC

No that title belongs to the guy who fought just before him, Borshchev.
I have to disagree. He got rocked and defended well for a full round against an actual grappling specialist. Alex Pereira got taken down by Izzy. Gane got wrestlefucked by D1 Francis. Slava Klaus is far superior to those other kickboxers in the grappling department.

Chase was competing in BJJ comps since he was a teen, and is currently a black belt. Again, there's less shame in being unable to get out from under him, while scrambling a bunch, than there is in looking like a turtle off your back versus Waldo.

oh yes i know chase has a black belt lol.

nah. I don't think people actually watched this guy before.

I mean, hes a HeavyWeight right? HWs suck at grappling especially at the lower levels

What does people watching him have to do with his grappling ability? Defending against a guy like Hooper from a bad position for a whole round shows he is decent.

Gane couldn't defend a TD against a one legged Francis who himself isn't much or a TD threat. Gane is quite possibly the worst grappler in the UFC not Slava Klaus.

This guy is. Who says Hooper is some elite bjj guy anyways lol

But yeah good luck to Hooper, let's agree to disagree.

Despaigne looked so bad because he gave up completely, looked like he was done after being on the ground. He's new to grappling, so maybe a year of nonstop grinding, he'll be more confident to get back up. Dude looks strong as fuck, just not using his muscles the right way to get back up. Also he can be more tactical and use the cage more because no matter his opponent they are going to be going for the takedown.

There are barely any dudes that can grapple at HW anymore. Him not being able to grapple isn't the problem. It's him not having TDD. All Rebelis should have done was drill TDD's for this fight as it was pretty obvious Waldo was not going to try win standing. For a dude that big and strong he was getting taken down so easily.

If you’re in a courtroom pretending to be one.

That was one of the most spectacular hype train derailments of all time. Well, maybe not spectacular, but thoroughly embarrassing and likely difficult or impossible to recover from.
Obviously Despaigne was clueless in the grappling and didn't really know what to do, however the few times there was striking he looked so amateurish as well, look at the few times he actually threw a punch on the feet, he was loading up like he was swinging a baseball bat and his eyes were closed, he was just trying to swing as hard as he could with his eyes closed. There was zero skill in that.

The whole thing was so bad.

forget the grappling, he looked shit standing. 87 inch reach and he is just lunging in to the clinch with his hands down multiple times. Even if he had good tdd he woulda gotten sparked out cold later.

Imagine what a guy like Dan Severn would do to them both on the same night hahahaha

So true, totally agree with you. haha I know people think I am a old fogey and like the old fighters, but I swear Severn would tap them so quick, they would never stop his world class wrestling and they would just turtle up on the floor and not know what to do and would get tapped quick.

Same goes for Rozenstruik and many of the other 2024 UFC HWs, they would all turtle up and get tapped. People think everything that is new is better, its not true, its definitely not true. Its just the 15 second memory everyone has.

Of course the lighter weight classes are a billion times better than before, especially BW and FW, its much better, no doubt. But I really think HW and LHW has gone backwards badly, I'm not seeing the skill, there are a couple of fights that are ok, but most of the fights are really sloppy and slow and just a mess. You know because you have a deep knowledge.
