President Obama’s administration has become famous for claiming high numbers of deportations, stating that nearly 2 million unlawfully present aliens have been removed from the country over the past eight years. However, these “deportations” also included illegal aliens who were caught at the border and immediately sent home, a large category of aliens that, under previously administrations, were counted as “returns” rather than true “deportations.”

I can't remember who it was on this forum, but I've been argued with in the past about this. I argued that the Obama admin played games with deportations and immigration data in order to mislead the public on what kind of policy was being enforced. Also, it's been stated many times around here that deportations actually INCREASED under Obama, Which is horse shit.

"In fact, when added together, CIS’s report revealed the Obama administration has deported only about 5.3 million illegal aliens compared with President George W. Bush’s 10.2 million. In the mid-to-late ‘90s, President Bill Clinton was responsible for deporting nearly 12.3 million illegals."

That's an interesting website you linked.

Source that the Obama admin was "playing games".

If we invent a time machine we should go back and deport more people

This is a more unbiased source.

Total # of deportations under Obama went up, but # of interior deportations (ICE) went down under Obama.

CIS is famously biased, and is the source cited in the OP's link.

But your statement is 100% right. Border enforcement was bolstered so that removals at the border went up, while removals from the interior (classically-defined "deportation") went down. This was obviously the smart way to go, as border removals are far (far) cheaper for the government, and less burdensome on the immigrants.

But, yes, it's still better than the shit the OP linked, which is an Op-Ed from a Twitter user which cites to CIS, albeit not very intelligently. Also, Obama didn't fudge the numbers: that data collection method was passed by Congress in IIRAIRA in 1996.

They also forget to mention that the policy of processing people detained at the border was a policy started by Bush Jr. not Obama.

And it makes perfect sense, in the era of terrorism, its a good idea to know who is trying to illegaly enter the US.
