Cut Through Pass Question

I rarely cut through successfully. I usually get stopped with a good knee shield. I've seen the knee shield counter in which you kinda walk sideways to reposition your opponent's knees and thus beat the knee shield but I never pull it off.

I also realize this could be a good moment to switch passes and do a different knee shield pass, but it also seems worthwhile to work this kink out in my cut through pass.

Any tips?

If the knee shield blocks your cut through, change the path of your cut to sideways or even 45 degrees angled backwards. Your cut does not need to go forward to complete the pass.

Basically the reset (what rmongler showed), the crazy dog pass (what Machida showed). There's a third option which is to switch to the long step grips and just push it of the way.
