theoretically win BJJ competitions by points...or will they eventually get caught in a submission?

Well, Ed Ruth (I know it's not freestyle but it's a NCAA champ) just entered Pans at blue belt and finished second.

The speed of the guard pulls would be legendary, but he would get submitted pretty handily.

Sure they could. Some have nasty top control. At a certain level they'd probably get caught in leglocks if they haven't seen them before them.

Sure, I have no doubt in saying someone like Sadulaev with at least a year worth of BJJ experience could medal at a good event, same with Khinchegashvili, he has excellent scrambles which could prove useful.

are you talkin the best wrestlers vs the best bjj guys?

the best wrestlers in the world could go to a local tournament and rape a lot of people.

against the best bjj guys, if they havent trained for bjj then they would get demolished quickly.

if they do train some, they will probably just get demolished.

Pretty much this,

In no GI absolutely. The original Abu Dhabis Mark Kerr won several times.

To be fair, like Kerr, they would have to have experience with countering submissions, but yes using freestyle wrestling and BJJ defense they could win a high level NO-GI tournament. In a GI BJJ tournament they would probably get destroyed.

Generally anyone with high level grappling experience in any art can beat average Joes in another art. You can track down old footage of BJ Penn entering local Judo competitions and just flying arm barring everyone while wearing a white belt. Jason Morris (Judo silver medalist) won a D1 NCAA wrestling title for Syracuse basically just using Judo throws. Vlad Koulikov (Sambo master of sport) used to win Grapplers Quests just leg locking everyone from standing. Hell, I'm far from hot shit as a wrestler but I train a lot of submission grappling and MMA wrestling and when I go to the local wrestling club and go with guys who haven't wrestled more than 1-2 days a weeks since high school I tune them up pretty easily. Grappling is, to a large extent, grappling, and the qualities which make you successful in one style are easily transferable to another.

Of course, at higher levels specialists in a given discipline with great all around ability will destroy good people from other styles since the general grappling attributes will be relatively even and all that will matter is skill in that particular art.

The rules matter a lot. ADCC is designed to favor wrestling (which I think is a good thing), Kerr won a lot of those matches by literally taking the guy down and not doing much else and winning by 2 since they couldn't pull guard. I don't think a pure wrestler with good submission defense would win no-gi worlds or Pans. Another thing to consider is that back in the day when Kerr was competing no-gi was kind of a weird side thing that not many people focused on, now it's almost its own style. I have a feeling someone like Kerr would get heel hooked pretty quickly if he entered ADCC in 2017.

I agree with the rules being a factor, but Couture did draw with Jacare in a grappling match. Jacare is a pretty modern day JiuJitsu guy who is well versed in No Gi.

Always love your posts. This makes me wonder. I know we have seen a lot of good MMA wrestlers go into ADCC and we've seen mixed results. How good do you think someone like Jon Jones, or Chris Weidman, Luke Rockhold, Tony Ferguson, or Khabib could do in ADCC...if they took like 6 months and devoted an entire focus on it and an extensive training camp for it?

Probably any of those guys would do fine. I think Jones and Ferguson would have the biggest difficulties from that list, mostly because their grappling success in MMA seems largely to be based on hurting the guy first and then finishing him. Ferguson especially doesn't have the TD game to force being on top, and his guard is not up to ADCC standards. Weidman has already proved he can do well in ADCC, Rockhold was a BJJ champ before he ever got into MMA and would be totally fine, and Khabib is such a monstrous wrestler that I don't think he'd have any serious problems getting on top (though I do think the top guys could probably finish him from the bottom, especially some of the foot lock specialists).

The same way shaub draw with cyborg, it's really hard to grapple when there's only person willing to grapple.

Adcc with this rules, a high level freestyle or ncaa div champ will probably have a day on the park, with basic sub defense.

Jiu jitsu clmpetiton are different though, Ben askren competed as a purple in no gi worlds, ans he lost.

I would love to see khabib vs some one the dds boys...
