British MPs introduce bills to censor social media groups

That sounds pretty interesting though not sure if in practice it works out well. Seems like it could incite vigilantism.

It's a controversial verdict, and some people would prefer to abolish it and bring Scot's law back in line with the rest of the UK. But there is no sign of that happening at the moment.

How come there isn't a thread about EU banning memes earlier? It's a pretty big news.

Why is it controversial? How does it go wrong in practice?

Because to many people justice should exist in a binary state: one is either Guilty or Not Guilty. No grey area, which is what Not Proven essentially is. We think you're guilty but we can't actually prove it beyond reasonable doubt. Hence the Scottish legal sland for it being, "the bastard verdict", a phrase coined by Sir Walter Scott himself when he was a Sheriff in the town of Selkirk.

Some people who have had a case against them found Not Proven believe they are still left with the stigma of guilt, even though they have not been found guilty of a crime.

People who take the opposite view, including the Scottish Rape Crisis Centre, believe that if Not Proven was removed, more people would be found Guilty by juries, even though the evidence against them did not meet the legal standard for conviction.
