While this is obviously bad and I've admittedly not read the story I always can't help but wonder what exactly the images of "kids" they found are since pictures of a 17 year 11 month and 29 day year old girl will get you charged with pedophilia even though I think we can all agree that is very different than explicit picture of a 9 year old.

Not sure that really came out right and to be clear I don't condone either of those senarios but hopefully you understand what I'm trying to say here.

Kidd admitted charges of downloading and possessing indecent images of children between July 2005 and June 2017, and a charge of possessing extreme pornographic images between April 2007 and August 2017.

Fair enough, sounds like he's getting off easy then although he will forever be known as a pedophile now so while avoiding jail time is nice his life is still essentially over and he will get what he deserves at somepoint anyway so it will all work out in the end.

There were at least one post alleging that he committed sexual acts with kids on possibly some trips to Thailand / Cambodia.

When I read in the article, it said he downloaded pics and vids from the internet.

The two actions are totally different and will have different punishments in court.

You make a good point, there are levels... However, you must understand that in even only downloading such images he is in fact supporting and encouraging the acts themselves by creating a demand. Just like with any porn. People need to wake up to this.

It's amazing this needed to be explained but this is 100% true.

It doesnt really matter if he assaulted kids himself or not. Downloading child porn contributes to the business and explotation of these kids. 1 pic should be deathsentence imo

i think evil people "produce" it for themselves too, there must be many of these psychos sharing it in underground forums

but you're right that the "consumers" incentive & normalize it to some extent, so they are definitely to blame too, and IMO should receive ridiculously harsh punishments, these guys don't belong in society

Yes obviously it happened to children before the internet. But exactly how naive would someone have to be to not believe the now ready availability (and limitless platform) of this shit has led to way more children being used to create the content to provide to the sickos.

I don't understand your prohibition analogy really. Nobody is saying that busting every person in possession of this shit will save every kid in the world from being a victim. But the more you can take out of the "buyer's pool" the lower the demand.

Yeah I don't know a ton about it. One of my best friends is a fed that has to bust these freaks sometimes. Says he is never more depressed than when he has to go through the residence collecting evidence and stuff from these cases. He's kinda said the same thing as you (some is made by freaks for their own use and then shared and some is purely for profit).

He said here in the states they mostly just have to go after those in possession because most of it is made in other countries.

Did Bloody Elbow seriously not know about this? Nate Wilcox comes off as one of the more level-headed people on the media side of the sport, so I'd have a hard time believing that he let this fly.
