BJ Penn's Weight Management Specialist talks Penn getting pulled out of UFC 199

+1 for cliffs.

and if its already been posted, i need cliffs for this thread

My apologies, super new to this. I didn't even know what TS meant until I just googled it. Honest mistake, it won't happen again in these forums without cliffs. If admins want to pull it, that's fine. Now that I am aware, it won't happen again.

Its not against the rules to not post cliffs or anything like that. just if you make a thread with a 30 minute audio clip, most people would either rather not listen to that at all, or read a brief summary before deciding to listen to it or not.

I definitely dont want to be a nuisance on here at all, that makes a ton of sense though, appreciate you filling me in for sure. Definitely will have clips from here on out.

But if youre allowed to take an IV for 50mL, then wouldnt a test for plastic be meaningless?

The only way this makes sense is if he was completely ignorant of the IV ban out of competition, or he was aware of it but not the permittance of 50mLs

Then why has still nobody said WHY he took the IV? Wouldn't that be THE most important part of this puzzle?

Thi i the thing, nobody has aid why he had one.

The guy in the interview says "it was 250ml and thats the size used for vitamins and things like that" but doesnt actually say thats what BJ was doing.

And a vitamin IV is slightly ridiculous, im on iron and b12 and injections is just dandy for both, or pills crushed up to powder orally... to be honest, with the b12 powder orally every day is better than a single hit with injection of iv because the hits so big that the body flushes most of it out again

and the thing is, IF he was having a vitamin IV (not sure why that would be under a doctors supervision), but if he was, its ridiculous to think that someone in his camp wouldnt have thought, ooh, that IV ban thing, wonder if thats all the time

LETS CHECK (but thats would be the smart thing to do)

Honestly, whats happened here, testers have turned up, BJ has crapped himself that they will "test for plastic" so hes fessed up in the hope of a shorter ban, the same reason Machida fessed up to DHEA..

Maybe the trainer doesn't know all the details? Is it possible he got dehydrated after a training session or for a real medical reason? People seem to be awfully quick in condemning the guy before all the facts are laid out.

He would be allowed if there was an actual medical need though.

Well of course he wont test positive, he had an IV. Thats the point, they flush everything out so you dont test positive :D
It masks it for a couple of hours. It would only be beneficial if he had used an IV a couple of hours before the test.

yes it would be. that's why its a long jump from what he wrote and what he concluded the post with

Didn't BJ say that he thought IV ban was for only post weigh in? If he thought that he wouldn't have asked for an exemption, would he?

But he could get one retroactive to cover it, unless of course it wasn't for an actual medical condition, which means he wouldn't be covered and therefore pulled from the fight........

They'd have to review it either way, he was getting pulled from the fight regardless.

From what I understand if he had an actual medical reason, from a medical proffessional he would have received a TUE for it. Him being pulled, from an IV months ago, leads me to believe he could not produce a medical reason for it.

You think they're going to just give him a TUE before they review everything?

Far as I know they did not just learn of this infraction this week. Have they not known and investigated it for quite a while now before they did actually pull him from the fight?

I don't know, and who knows if they asked BJ for any mitigating circumstances or what the protocol is. I'm going to give the BJ the benefit of the doubt, considering he's been the first vocal guy about PEDs and calls for stricter testing. I'll wait until the facts are presented before I rush to judgement.

id assuming they'd have asked him whether or not the iv was for medical reasons before issuing a violation..

It was known back in March that he used an IV. So you are saying that USADA waited until now to pull him for reasons.

You can get a TUE for medically needed IV's, and he could have gotten one if he did indeed use an IV for a medical reason. Him not being pulled until shows to me he didn't have a medical need for it, which means he deserves what he gets. Not saying out right he was using any illegal, but when you get pulled from a fight for using an IV, then continue to not say WHY he used an IV, though saying simply oh didn't know I couldn't, means something fishy is going on. Won't say what it is, but it def makes me nervous and am glad that he did get pulled from the fight.

Didn't I just post my thoughts on this topic? Unless you work at usada or the UFC, you don't know shit, do you?

No, just going by what facts we know.

- he told them back in March.
- You can recieve a TUE for medically needed IV's
- BJ didn't get pulled from the fight until now.
- BJ did not recieve a TUE for a medically needed IV

That's the shit I do know.
