So those of you who cross train between striking (say Muay Thai) and grappling (BJJ), how do you distribute your training time between the two and what do your weekly training schedules look like? Don't you think you would progress faster if you dedicated all your blood and sweat into one discipline? I ask because I had the honor of rolling with a BJJ buddy who is a competitive Muay Thai fighter. He is in his mid 40s and believes that training Muay Thai 5-6 days a week is starting to get hard on his recovery so he is adding two grappling days in the middle to ahem "recover" from the beating he gets in Muay Thai class :)

Just wondering what is the ideal balance between the two so that you can progress significantly without one compromising the other.

Go for the meta balance; clinch fighting!

Depends on the competition and your priorities, you prioritize accordingly. Like biscuits said, both classes in one day is good.

If you're a specialist in one area, not only the recovery, but you need to do something new to spice it up otherwise you'll get bored and stop all together down the road.
