AEW CXVII: Mariah is Upon Us

I was wrong about Lee Moriarty never winning a singles match on AEW TV. I just looked at cagematch and I had to go all the way back to two years ago where he had a 3 week run where they gave him a 3 match winning streak on Rampage against Dante Martin, Matt Sydal, and Fuego Del Sol <lmao>

TWO YEARS AGO

<{you!}>

AEW gives too much television time to people who are given almost no creative and are not ready for TV.

Having a long 50 / 50 match doesn't make it a good match. Collision and Rampage were really bad yesterday.

I have zero want or need to see another Top Flight or Lee Moriarty "good match" that they're going to lose without them being built up at all. These guys have been in the company for several years and haven't been built up as credible contenders in any, way, shape, or form, yet every time I see them on TV commentary sells them like they are. How many times do I need to hear about how much of a technical wrestling threat Lee Moriarty is and how he can beat anybody at any moment, when he hasn't won a singles match on AEW TV ever....3 years, never won a singles match on AEW TV. Why do I need to see this guy go 15 minutes damn near every week if they're not going to build him up as anything other than the guy that loses after a 15 minute "banger"?

Are "good matches" really "good matches" just because they're mechanically good?

That's a problem with AEW, in that they're becoming really formulaic, especially when they're trying to build someone up. Either have someone from ROH come up to AEW TV and lose, or take someone who hasn't been used in ages, have them won a match or two weeks prior, lose to who they really want to push, then disappear.

It's also why I miss Dark. An hour or two of enhancing, for free, on a popular platform. Getting rid of that was a big mistake.

The matches are still good, but they need to start mixing in an upset or two every once in a while.

That Swerve and Gates of Agony segment was pretty good. Was complaining about Swerve seemingly losing his edge on Wednesday, so I'm glad he came in, choked Kaun out with a chain, and smashed Lionas head in with a chair.

Don't think Billington looked bad at all against Harwood. Standing ovation from the crowd after the match with them chanting his name. Kid is only 23, so hopefully he's got a bright future ahead of him.

Decent promo from Daniels. Good to see his eye is no longer fucked up as well.

Okada v Dax on Dynamite? Nice

Enjoyed Collision this week. Great opener and main event, Tommy Billington looked promising, Swerve showing us an edge he was missing on Dynamite. Good stuff

Rampage was pretty much entirely skippable. Bryan Keith got a win which was good to see, couple decent promos from Rush and Copeland, then Bang Bang Gang closing the show. Everything else was just there I guess lol

"Hey, here's a young man with skill and historic name recognition. If we invest some time in him he could be a potential star down the road. But first he needs to lose his TV debut to a tag team specialist whose only singles win in years is against his own partner." - Tony Khan, probably.

Dynamite Kid II seems like he has a bright future, one he puts on a little mass and gets some seasoning. He certainly brings more to the table than Nick Wayne (apart from his mom).

Zero chance it touches the Fantastics vs Sheephearders barbed wire steel cage match from the 80's.

I heard about that match back when it happened but I never had the opportunity to watch it. Have to go search youtube.

Dude Nick Wayne is good. I've seen him wrestle countless times it's insane what he's doing at his age.
