I agree with allot of your points. He certainly is a good fighter. He had the potential to be a champion as proven in the Anderson fight. I agree that he beats Anderson more times out of 10 then he losses because of his style.

I think his submissions are under-rated. They aren't great but he has them so he has that going for him on top of his wrestling and toughness / gas tank. Other than that I think your assessment of his abilities are fair.

Reading your OP left me with remember something else that would point to him being a good fighter and getting unlucky in title fights. Which was his title fight in the WEC. And I use title fight loosely here since the Champion came in over weight and although Sonnen won he wasn't awarded the belt.
