A Betting Site Just Robbed Me, Someone Help Me Understand This...

Not to ask the obvious question, but does $140 sound familiar in any sense?

I think we know what happened.

I didn't read all of the posts in this thread, but you should fund your betting accounts with bitcoin, and whenever your winnings get over like $100, just withdraw it to your bitcoin wallet (unless it's BetDSI who charges you $10 for payouts under $300). That is unless you plan making another wager real soon. Don't leave that money sitting around too long.

So, the site that I always bet on just took (stole!) the remaining of my balance and when I e-mailed them for an explanation why, they informed me that either me or my bank disputed the original transaction I made with them back in May, and as a result, "all remaining balance was collected as a partial pay of the amount not paid for services duly rendered."

What does this even mean?

Did you payelectronically through a bank account? Check with your bank to see if they reversed the transaction thinking that it was not a valid transaction or someone called in your behalf (such as your wife) to dispute the transaction.

I think most banks won't dispute a charge under $50, or maybe it's 25. I remember when i was working at SunTrust about 15 years ago, this customer lost thousands of dollars from online gambling and tried to dispute the charge. ultimately, we refunded him the money because our regulations stated something to the effect of we wouldn't allow online gambling transactions.

Not really. I've been out of the business since 2006 when they passed that damned act.
.

You didn't make the move down to Costa Rica/Panama/etc. w/ the crews?

Take the email to the bank as proof you shouldn't have been billed the $140 in the first place.

$135 profit baby.

Not if they do it to everyone who uses the site. This is what credit card companies, and just about every American business does now. Instead of looking to scam a few people out of lots of money, scam everyone out of a little money. They’re less likely to do anything about it, and it actually generates more revenue to do it that way.

Only if they never dispute and refund on first request.

It's illegal for a bank to transfer funds from a US citizen to any company whose transactions are coded gaming, and all legitimate gaming companies code their transactions properly.

Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006

All about tax.

Our location was irrelevant.

The act made it illegal for the banks to move money to or from our clients from any gaming site. We'd spent a decade building relationships with these banks and developing a client base.

That's complicated.

This act passed because of one man who'd been trying to push it through for years, until he finally got there. He had to be pretty sneaky to cross the finish line, there was a lot of resistance because of how many people really enjoy playing poker. Voting to pass the act was political suicide for a lot of people.

The official reasons were money laundering (which absolutely existed and continues), morality, and gambling addiction. It's impossible to be sure what the real reasons were, but Bill Frist had campaigned on making online gambling illegal for years.

Also, it's not like online gaming wasn't generating tax revenue, and if more was their goal, they could have increased it exponentially by legalizing it and controlling how money was transferred.

How are gaming guys still operating down there? Shady style?

It's not great to associate your online ID with a clawback.

It will get your account disabled, and possibly any future accounts with any other company.

Sure, you can open other accounts, but if you try it with any decent company, they'll find you.

I don't know, I've been out of the business for years. I remember some shenanigans with cashing in online gift cards.

The easiest way I would imagine would be to use a European bank, but I'm not up to date on the state of the regulations. Banks in general never liked online gambling, the charge-back rate is WAY too high.

One thing that bothered me was public conceptions about why we did a lot of the things we did, like asking for scans of the font and back of credit cards and of driver's licenses. People didn't understand that we were under constant attack from serious fraudsters who were intelligent and highly motivated.

Hard to dispute this since

A. It's overseas
B. It's an illegal gambling website

They know they have you over a barrel. It's like calling the cops because someone stole your heroin.
People do call the police when someone steals their shit. Homeless people also call on other homeless people when they’re on their corner. To answer your question though, let your $6.65 go, it’s not worth the effort that will go into fighting this. Also, you sound poor.

Met a few folks from gaming over the years, especially during the 90's to the early 00's. One of my best buds worked on the database side until a few years ago and lost that sweet, juicy gig when the company moved. It hurt so much I cried too.

I generally never asked them about business because I liked getting invited to the gaming parties and dinners and trips and...<seedat>

Close your 6$ account and create a new one. Its 6 bucks bro, you will live.

It's 6 bucks sure, but I'd be nervous, what if you win something good and they fool you twice?

Gaming parties were the best.

I went to an internet gaming convention here in Montreal (GIGSE), and you would not believe the cash thrown around. When I walked in and they had models in string bikinis serving Hagen Daaz I knew I was in the right place. All the major casinos represented and they all threw massive parties, and each one wanted to be the best party you had ever attended.
