Chael Sonnen thought he would have a speed advantage on him, but afterwards, he described FEdor as the very very fast guy. He wasn't sure if he was fast, or fast for a heavyweight, and thought he'd have a speed advantage, but he didn't see his punches coming.

However, we all know that Fedor slowed down as he aged. His trainers I think even mentioned that too. But, Chael Sonnen who fought middleweights before is commenting on Fedor's speed at age 42. I think it's really hard to tell how fast someone is really just by watching the video tapes, but he must have been lightening fast period in his peak prime.

And speed kills. People talk like Fedor is a striker, but he is a grappler that trained since young in Judo and Sambo. I wonder how fast he really was. I always thought Crocop was fast, but I think in an interview, I think, I could be remembering it wrong, but Nogueria thought Fedor was the fast one, even compared to Crocop.

I am not sure like some people who think Fedor could have cut to the middleweight. He was like well built in his prime and pretty thick. But o n the flipside of that is, as you could see it with Chael Sonnen, there are middleweights who aren't much smaller than Fedor, and many light heavyweights like Bader who is probably equal to if not bigger than Fedor.

I rate Fedors speed at

out of a possible 5 ice creams.

He had the speed of a middleweight , that's why I don't take anyone that thinks prime Silva would beat Fedor in his prime.

Fedor was just a special kind of fighter , he could adapt to any situation in a fight at his best and beat his opponents with there own gameplan and abilities ( check his fight against CroCop , Fedor was beating him on the feet)

Not only that Fedor almost always beat fighters larger than him who by all rights the man would of been a career middleweight if he lost weight.

Fedor = legend among goats.

Francis hits as hard at a ford escort going 60mph. Fedor is as fast as a ford escort doing 60mph. Crazy stuff #GOAT

Faster than any fighter ever. The entry speed, transition speed and computing speed were second to none. Absolute Cyborg. Look at Sonnens other fights against other good strikers. The first round starts and Sonnen walks them down and takes them down and holds them down until the bell rings. It happened to prime Anderson, Shogun, Marquardt, Wand,Bisping and Stann and none of them could do shit about it.

42 year old Fedor was the only one who was fast enough to measure Sonnen, plant his feet and land precise, power shots on Sonnen and knock him down in the first 4 seconds.

Fedor fast as fuck at 42. Imagine at 27....

Let me put it to you this way, around the Arlovski fight his coaches said he was slowing down. After the fight there were a bunch of gifs on Sherdog in slow motion of Fedor parrying shots from Arlovski that in real time people thought were landing, they were not. This is when he started slowing down. Prime Fedor had the fastest reaction time of any fighter I have ever seen and is in the top 5 for fastest hands WW and above. When Big Nog and Pedro Rizzo were asked what made Fedor so special they both said fast eyes/reaction time.

In his last fight while being even slower he threw three or four power shots in less than a second.

Extremely fast and intermittently explosive. All of which would have been useless without excellent processing speed and top shelf reflexes. Really a once-ever for MMA. How interesting that his brother also has some of the fastest hands we ever saw at HW...

How the hell do you think a 6' pudgy man with baby soft skin was the terror of HW for a decade lol.

Even now he's pretty fast at HW. Most of the are slow oafs. Chael might be faster if he actually knew how to throw a punch

Fast as fuck...Quickest hands in MMA IMO.

Chael thinking he would be faster is adorable

Fedor was always a wrestler, who used very effective striking to get close for the takedown..he could still ko you with strikes, but his bread and butter was grappling, ground and pound and submissions...but he has evolved into a pure striker...he can still catch guys, like he did with Mir and sonnen...but he has shown that his chin isn't what it used to be...he gets hit far more than he used to...go watch his fights in pride, he rarely if ever got hit..he was super fast...he could be in on you in a heart beat and get you down...now, his grappling game is no where to be found...not really sure why he completely abandoned it though...maybe he no longer has the cardio for it...maybe he's severely shook from the werdum fight...who knows exactly why.

Aleks is one of the biggest wastes of potential in mma
<2>
which is crazy cause he’s had a good career as it is

No way, he's never shown that type of speed, Fedor's in a league with guys like Belfort, Igor and Aleksander for hand speed.
