He won the Welterweight belt
He defended it
He went up and won the middleweight belt
He avenged all his losses
He hasn't lost for more than a decade
He has all the money he needs
He has the fame and the respect

What are his motives?
This isn't Bisping he wants to fight, If he fights a young hungry guy like Habib, it won't be pretty for him

He’s coming back to cherry pick easy fights ala Ping and Conor.

because he is use to coming back everytime he is abducted by aliens

He wants the money fights. Can't blame him.

Khabib vs GSP would be incredible.

Even the greatest still want to compete and St. Pierre is one of the few that can walk in, clean house and rustle the feathers of everyone.

Because everything else is boring compared to fighting.

70 year olds go out of retirement and return back to work because they’re bored. How do you think a 37 year old still full of energy and life must feel. He never struck me as the coaching type.

GSP wants to make money.

He wants money fights where he feels he has a strong chance of winning.

If Khabib made $2,000,000 , GSP is a more established name (although Khabibs win over McConor and flying eagle stomp put him on everyone’s Instagram) and might want a piece of modern day mma pay.

TS retirement is not easy for young guys particularly when they feel they can still compete at or near the top levels. They have spent their lives testing themselves and pushing themselves and in many way that has given them their purpose.

GSP started talking about retirement when he felt himself losing his fire prior to the Hendricks fight. He was lacking the inner motivation to push for greatness that defined him most of his career and felt that was impacting his fight quality. So good for him in actually retiring after the Hendricks fight when he knew he was no longer fighting as his best self.

In retirement he gets to do some sole searching and determine if he truly wants to fight again, with no pressure and to see if he can truly find the fire to push himself at top levels and coming out of retirement as a 'Great' he is under no obligation to get into contender matches or work his way up any rankings. He has earned the right to pick big legacy and big money fights if the UFC will offer them or stay retired.

So while Khabib is certainly a risk (mainly the cut to 155 is) it is certainly a big money and a MASSIVE legacy fight. Well worth the risk/reward to try and be the first 3 division champ in MMA history.

Precisely.

He loses to Khabib and Woodley but would have handled Conor pretty easily.

If anyone listened to his interview on Ariels show, that was a man backing away from fights when it's been clear over the last few months he has been getting smaller.

But now hes 183 in the morning. Ok. I dont think that would have been a deterrent had Conor won, but I guess he is too big now and has made enough money and doesnt want to be one of those fighters that stuck around too long etc etc....

Khabib duck noted

If GSP isn't fighting Woodley then frankly I'm not all that interested.

Come back to make good paychecks whilst cherry picking.

Unfortunately for him, Dana White hates him, so he's fucked.

the second oldest reason of all..... $$$$$$$.$$
