***2018 NBA FINALS THREAD*** A CAVALIER DEATH MARCH!

There were no easy shots against the Knicks. It was a battle of attrition every game. The tougher team won, not exactly the most skilled. If you are old enough, you know that. It was physical defense like Lebron probably has never gone up against.

Ewing was a great player. And ask Lebron how great Pat Riley is.

Exactly. It was a different game in the 90s. Imagine LeBron not having a team full of shooters spreading the floor. Imagine him having to get passed Starks only to be met by Ewing, Oakley, and Mason with no where to kick it out to. You're going to see that fg% drop a few ticks as well as those rpg and apg numbers. LeBron has always struggled with finishing through contact and never developed his post/mid range game. Those are the two things he would need to beat the Knicks back then.

Of course if you transplanted the Knicks into 2018 and forced them to spread the floor and guard the 3ball LeBron would have a field day. But the again so would Jordan.

My uncle coaches Mount Zion academy in NC. Tracy McGradys high school. He makes good coin doing it, too.
that's a good school that recruits

most normal public HS's probably pay like a 1-3k stipend for coaching a whole season, as they're generally also an employee of the school fulltime
edit: somebody correct me if i'm wrong about this, i imagine like HS football coaches in Texas might actually get paid for real and shit like that

I fully understand the math. Two things:

1- It is fucking boring to have 70 3s per game.
2- It's not as simple as you make it.

The Rockets missed 27 straight 3-pointers last night. If they instead took 2 point shots, they would have probably scored 13 FGs, or 26 points. 26 > 0. Chucking 3s at all costs is stupid and boring.

GS played good D and Houston went cold. Its a high variance style but Houston wasnt gonna beat GS by going all 2 points. This isnt the 90s. The reason everybody had to copy GS 3 point heavy style is because you literally stand no chance otherwise. When the Cavs beat them they were bombing lots of 3s, too

Morey Ball is the future. It doesnt need to be as ugly as Houston sometimes makes it with their ISO heavy version. It can be a team game but still you look for 3s, paint shots and FTs only. Mid range is only if you have a special Jordan/Durant like player who can do that a high % but most guys frankly cant. DeRozan is one of the mid range specialists and his FG% is always low because of it.

Yea, Mount Zion is a private school. My uncle has had visits from lots of amazing player who picked other high schools. He told me about John Wall before he hit high school. Said he never seen a kid like him that his athletic ability was off the charts and he is a no brainer future NBA player at 14 years old or whatever.

Program isnt as good as it used to be. They also hardcore into that Christian stuff.

Look it up man.

Towns does just about everything better, and it’s early in his career... by the time Towns is done I might have been too generous with that statement.
Comparing eras where 2 bigs were on the floor at once vs the era where guards average 10rpg. Don’t think it’s a question at this point Towns is an all time talented shooter for a big guy but call me when he ever plays a lick of defence. For that reason he will always be another empty stats guy like Devin Booker. Would Towns have even made the playoffs yet without Jimmy Buckets lol?

i played in a similar league in VA, the single A independent league as our school was DoD and technically not public.

So we played two public schools that were also single A, but had 1000 students to our 120. Then like four military academies that were decent athletically but don't recruit as it's normally troublemakers (except Eddie George who for some reason went to Fork Union Military in VA prior to my time). The rest were all private christian schools. Some were atrocious and clearly just took whomever was in the area and wanted to go, others like Oak HIll clearly recruited to an absurd degree so there was zero parity haha.

I don’t assume Lebron is better than MJ... he’s different, he IS better in some ways and he shouldn’t have to live in Jordan’s ridiculous shadow... because it causes morons to not appreciate what he’s doing.

And the East wasn’t that good... it’s just elevated because of Jordan, everyone has somehow made their name off losing to Jordan.

95-96... there was the Bulls, a 60 win upstart Magic team that got swept by the Bulls, a 52 win Reggie Pacers squad that lost to the Hawks in the first round and that’s it... the fucking Knicks won 47 games, got damn near broom’ed by the Bulls.

Why is there some weird belief that these teams were so good?

The East was better than it has been throughout Lebron's entire 15 year career. I posted this in another thread.

How many finals has the East won in Lebron's 15 year career? Four times. And how many different East teams won? One. Lebron's teams. Even with the "GOAT" Lebron, the East wins less than 27%.

How many finals did the East win in MJ’s 15 year career? Nine times. That's 60%. And how many different East teams won? Three. Boston, Detroit and Chicago. Michael Jordan is 6-0 and never played a game 7 in the finals, but played several in the Eastern Conference. That's how much tougher the East was.

Indiana, the Knicks, Shaq's Magic, Wilkins' Hawks, the Pistons and the Celtics were all time great teams.

three EC teams have been swept in the last what 25 years in the FInals also, that's actually hard to do (Jordan's bulls never swept anybody right? i thought his comp was weak tho?)

nets against Lakes
Cavs against Spurs
Magic against Rockets

shit AI sixers and Dwights Magic both at least got a game haha

You don't have to chuck 3s. If you do it, you become predictable, and defending that becomes easy. Just the fact that they shot 27 3s in less than 2 quarters is dumb. And they actually shot more than that.

not at all

He's clearly below average. he stands around doing nothing half the game, not even rotating. You aren't watching, or YOU are being highly disingenuous
How much money are you putting down?

I've never gambled on sports in my life (unless fantasy somehow counts)....why are you pulling some gambling criteria out of thin air?

not sure what that has to do w/ someone's defensive ability

Missing 27 straight 3's in a game which was surrendered by 9 points is quite possibly the most shameful indictment of this "new era" that I've ever seen.

An astoundingly pathetic performance by a "team" so entrenched in -simply put- the wrong way to play that they didn't even have the wherewithal to take just a few more high % shots. Hopefully this serves as a lesson to would-be 3 pt chucking "teams" in the future - the 3 pointer has always been, and always will be, fool's gold.

Serious question: is there anyone here, who is not in California, that likes/roots for the Warriors? I’m sure we all cheered when the Baron Davis warriors beat the Mavs but i mean now.

I like Steph because he's from my hometown and I grew up watching his dad play on the hornets. Watching Mark Jackson sit in the unemployment line makes it even more enjoyable. Add Klay into the mix and I almost found myself following them more than the hornets....that being said, Durant and Durrmond make me not even want to watch.

Except none of their guys could get calls to get to the line, so when your stroke is struggling and the way to fix it isn't happening you're pretty much fucked. Especially when the other team has 4 all stars to your one.

never realized how many HOU fans I have on my FB feed, until I saw the 'missed calls comp videos/gifs' butthurt fest this morning

Wow, I've never seen anything like it
