Of course if you’ve been following mma for awhile you know the stigma and negative perception it had to battle to become a mainstream sport. Nonetheless, it’s interesting to watch this short clip from February 1998 of Rogan trying to educate the crowd on mma.

The part I found particularly interesting is the crowds reaction when Joe says things like mma “is very safe.” Before he can finish explaining, the crowd laughs at the statement in a seemingly mocking manner. When Rogan tries to explain opponents can choke each other by using “technique” the crowd again laughs that there is technique to chokes.

I’m guessing any late night talk show audience nowadays would have at least basic knowledge of mma to not have the same reactions.

In the interview Joe also talks about an upcoming ppv event, but states people may not be able to purchase it due to censorship of mma.

As an aside, in the interview Rogan says “I’d would do gay porn before I would do a Steven Seagal movie.” Well, there you go.

I think he's likely being paid more than most of the fighters at the event.

that is still not enough tbh

The success of the ufc is tied to him. He provides basically 24 7 free advertisement every day. Most of the casuals come from his podcast. Most new ufc fans probably knew of him before they knew of the ufc.

it’s funny that joe Rogan is one of the biggest reasons that the ufc is big and he got no benefit from it besides watching fights for free lol
Yeah.. people like to sh#t on Rogan for a variety of reasons, but when it’s all said and done, he’ll have his place in the mma history books for bringing mma to the mainstream.

Joe Rogan mannerisms here and the way he talks is different compared to what he is now. It's probably also because of his look has drastically changed, but that's a given due to aging.

Was going to comment on that…definitely more of that east coast vibe/accent

LOL, it's the other way around.
Rogan has over 200 millions being a hard worker without talent.
- He is talking shit on his podcast.
- Always has been a bad commentator, profitting from Goldie being worse.
Nowadays every second fighter they try is immediately better than him after 20 years experience.
- Terrible comedian
- Never has been a real fighter

The UFC grew and his fame just grew with it. He is like a janitor at Tesla who got some stock in 2010

I agree but it's also pretty typical. The ufc doesn't exactly have a reputation for compensating the people who have kept them afloat over the years .

Crazy, Could it be that you're out of touch??
No, it's his millions of fans and subscribers that are wrong.

he is mostly right. You clearly do not know how bad Rogan is and are easily swayed by follower counts lol. Rogan is an out of touch boomer now.

I don't really listen to him. I don't really listen to Taylor Swift either. But to complain as though they're doing it wrong or don't deserve it when millions of people are lapping it up seems dumb.

People actually still say "Boomer" still? How is he out of touch is he not "Progressive" enough?
