Zingano: Rooting for Rousey

When you're dealing with a specialist, you're almost never going to be better defending against their attack than they are using their attack. There are very few UFC fights where you see someone beating their opponent at their own game (with exceptions, of course. Randy vs Chuck 1 comes to mind, and of course Alan Belcher vs Palhares)

I think Cat is doing the right thing, focusing more about worrying about how she's going to take the fight where she wants, instead of just drilling armbar defense to defend the best armbars in all of MMA. Better to just work on beating Ronda in the clinch, or outstriking her.

This. Cat also has a good range. 71" reach or something like that. If she can use that range and pick her shots she can stand a good chance. The critical part is during the clinch, whether Rousey gets the trip/throw or if Cat can get those knees to work. I hope the physical therapy goes well and she gets plenty of time to prepare during her training camp. Rousey is the type of fighter who is eager to engage. Establishing a good base in the clinch is important for Zingano.

I agree Rousey vs. McMann would be a good fight, but I have a bad feeling about that fight ever happening.

McMann is old and thus far she bailed/canceled out of 2 most competitive fights in her career (against Davis in Strike Force and Kaufman in UFC).

Does anyone know what's happening with McMann these days?

Well she just beat the piss out of Gaff and I heard they're trying to reschedule the Kaufman fight. btw that Kaufman fight was "personal reasons" so it doesn't look like it was injuries that can threaten careers.

McMann is only 33 anyway. I was looking hella forward to her vs Kaufman though.

Cat better get the shot. Dan Henderson had a title shot, got injured, and when he was healthy enough to fight the UFC still made him fight someone else and of course he lost, removing him from the title picture. I thought that was bullshit. But that goes to show, "earned" doesn't mean much. If it was about who earned what, Tate wouldn't even be on TUF it would be Kaufman who is actually ranked higher. But if the UFC stick to rankings and who earned what, Cat should be next.

Agreed, and it's a sound strategy.

At this point, it's a waste of time trying defending a move that your opponent had practiced her whole life. Once Rousey got ahold of that arm, resistance is futile.

Zingano's best bet is to K.O Rousey standing. All fights start on the feet. And the best defense is a good offense.

It's the same training strategy that Sarah Kaufman employed, but where Kaufman had failed, Zingano will be more successful, atleast until the clinching and Judo tossing begins. Then the outcome of this fight will greatly depends on how quickly Zingano can scramble back on her feet and resume the relentless knees and elbows assault that she's been so good at.

I agree with that analysis but it should be noted that its still strong speculation. We don't really know that Ronda can't stand with anyone in terms of striking yet or how she'll handle someone that comes at her like that. She barely has a total of 6 rounds altogether of cage time which only little more than one 5 round bout. Obviously the Judo and grappling are self evident and what she prefers though.
