Dana White: Cat Zingano will 'probably' need another win before getting UFC title shot
While there is still no exact date for Cat Zingano's return to action following a devastating knee injury, the one thing that is certain is that "Alpha' will not be fighting for the women's bantamweight title in her first fight back.
That's according to UFC President Dana White, who told members of the media during the UFC 173 media scrum that Cat will likely take another fight before re-earning her crack at the crown.
"Cat Zingano is still No. 1 contender, but she will probably fight again before getting Rousey or Alexis Davis," said White (via Damon Martin).
Miesha Tate -- the person Zingano defeated to earn her title shot -- eventually took her place on season 18 of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) as well as in the title fight against Ronda Rousey.
Tate went on to lose to "Rowdy" in the third round via, you guessed it, armbar at UFC 168 last December.
Rousey will next defend her title against Alexis Davis (sorry Gina) on July 5, 2014 at UFC 175 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
As for Zingano, White says she is considering returning to the gym after recuperating from knee surgery and dealing with the death of her husband earlier this year. Unfortunately for "Alpha," she will have to re-earn her title shot by beating another top contender.
Sara McMann, maybe? Or is a "Cupcake" rematch more appealing?
The good news for Zingano is that she still has her No. 1 ranking -- fair or not -- despite the "inactivity."
P.S I had no idea that Zingano lost her husband in January due to apparent suicide
