Zimbabwe coup or not?

I assure you this is totally not a coup.

There's been a struggle going on between the vice president and Mrs Mugabe over who's going to take the reigns when Bob dies.
Probably related to that, and probably a purge by one of the two evil fuckers or the other.
Doubt it's anything to celebrate.

Would be happy to be wrong. It's about time Zimbaweans got something better.

Also, this all brings the likelihood of civil war in my country a bit closer... and I already suspected that it might happen in the next two years.

How is there any kind of blow back in SA? Also, I hope you have your contingency plans in place my man. Stay safe.

How realistic is that? my understanding is that most in Africa civil wars were just cold war proxy wars and that the SA army is still in the hands of colored and whites.

There might be trouble brewing for the coupsters. Tracks from this Zimbabwean IFV appear to have defected to Mugabe loaylists!

They had something better then they murdered all the people who made it for them.

If this isn't a coup, then it's the coupest non-coup ever.

Mugabe had it coming though.

Zimbabwe is a close neighbour, both geographically and politically, and their drama almost always puts pressure on our economy - whether through trade or through the ebbing and flowing of economic migrants, their shit tends to splatter on us.
South Africa has never been in as fragile a place as it is at the moment. There are dissatisfied parties on all fronts, a busted economy, a president who's ransacking the national treasury and is in the middle of a state capture scandal, and an electorate that's too scared to vote for "white" parties but is gradually learning that the black ones aren't exactly on their side.

Then we've got our close relationship with Zimbabwe, and some of our leaders' close relationships with Mugabe himself.
There's been chatter about offering Bob asylum here. If we do that, there will be... mixed reactions.
Half of our political leaders think that Mugabe is the greatest African leader, the other half think he's a tyrant who's long overdue for an ousting.

Whispers of tax revolts and civil war in SA have been getting louder and louder for the past two years, and they've been coming from all corners, all factions and all colours. I've had more than a few discussions about it with people who are well connected but that I would usually consider too level-headed to engage in such talk.

There's not a direct or obvious causal line from this crisis to an SA one, but we're so unstable at the moment that I worry it's not going to take much to tip us over the edge.

And thanks, man. My contingencies are in place.

How realistic is that? my understanding is that most in Africa civil wars were just cold war proxy wars and that the SA army is still in the hands of colored and whites.

The army is in the hands of the ANC, and the ANC is fractured as hell and going through similar internal infighting to the ZANU-PF power grabs that precipitated this coup.

Other than the ANC itself, there are remnants of the Boeremag that are actively training for and plotting civil war. These are guys who take their kids out into the bush for weeks at a time every year, so that they can receive combat, tactical and firearm instruction at the same time as ideological indoctrination.

And then there is the socialist EFF. Their leader, Julius Malema, has flirted with the idea of civil war more than once. He's got a strong, almost rabid following in the Zulu community.

Ultimately, the government is weak and corrupt, and there are other players that have the capabilities and the convictions to test them. Whether or not that happens is anyone's guess, but that a South African civil war is a realistic possibility is not something I doubt.

They had something better then they murdered all the people who made it for them.

Bad logic.
This is the same logic used by assholes who blame whites today for everything bad that's ever been done by someone white.
I work with a lot of Zimbabweans - young men and women who had nothing to do with the land seizures and murders, and who had to get out of the country so that they could pursue some sort of happiness in a country that was not yet ruined by its leadership. These are not people who are happy about what Mugabe and his henchmen did to whites in that country. These are not people who were glad to see the back of the white man. These are people that honestly just want to work hard and make something of their lives.

How is it bad logic they had something better and instead of going for reconciliation like South Africa they (being the new gov't) chose to murder all the white land owners and ran the country into the ground.

I too work with many Zimbabweans including my favorite trade teacher and they unanimously tell me they wish the whites were still running the country so their family back home could have a future.

I said it's about time Zimbabweans got something better. You said they murdered the people who made something better for them.
That's bad logic.

I obviously wasn't talking about the Mugabe government deserving better, so no, "they" did not murder and chase off the people who made something better.

Are you high Zimbabwe was the fruit basket of Africa it was 1000x better then instead of reconciliation they murdered the core group of people who made the country a success.
If you think pre Mugabe Zimbabwe wasn't better than now you need to get your head checked

Are you high

No.

Zimbabwe was the fruit basket of Africa

Breadbasket, not fruit basket.

it was 1000x better

Indeed.

then instead of reconciliation they murdered the core group of people who made the country a success.

Yup.

If you think pre Mugabe Zimbabwe wasn't better than now

I don't.

you need to get your head checked

You need to learn to read and to employ logic.

I said its about time Zimbabweans got something better. You said they murdered the people who built something better.
That is false.
Mugabe and ZANU-PF murdered those who built something better. Not Zimbabweans as a whole. Your bad logic was when you extended Mugabe's guilt to encompass his entire country.

Now you're trying to educate me on Zimbabwe, when I'm pretty certain I know a shit-ton more about the country and its history than you do.

Damn I can't believe I typed Fruit basket haha that's what it is now.
I'm not trying educate you but you seem to have issue admitting Zimbabwe the country murdered the white farmers. Mugabe was chosen by the people and the people supported the genocide of white farmers it wasn't concealed like the holocaust (although plenty of Germans knew) it was happening out in the open and we the western world were complicit in it just as much as the regular Zimbabweans who saw it and did nothing.
