As per his handling of the joe lauzon vs. Jim miller fight.
Not the best ref, but he did pretty well in that fight. Glad he caught the tape coming out of Lauzon's glove and cut it off without having them stand them up.
Big John can be a bit annoying and vocal at times. Especially in older fights. As far as reffing skills go, I'd say Lavigne and John are equal.
One call in one fight and you praise him?
I think Yves does a good job usually, he's certainly one of the better one's along with Goddard.
They're both Sherdogger's though, so wadda you expect =p
Go watch Matt Brown vs Pete Sell and see if you still have this opinion
Yves has had some absolutely dog shit fights.
MMA fans have short attention spans. Just last year Lavigne was the most hated ref in the business.
everytime a ref makes a good call, hes the best ref ever
everytime a ref makes a bad call, hes the worst ref ever
sherdog logic 101
Yves is the best, Winslow is also making improvements, great stoppage in the Boetch fight.
He's great relative to others, but for me, best has to be Leon Roberts.
Herb Dean is too protectionist, imo.
Yves is brilliant no doubt. it's a toss-up between him and rosenthal to me.
I raise you - Fernando Yamasaki, Dan Mergliotta, the two Australian one's (the one who called a fight for a nutshot, and the one who keeps telling the fighters to fight when they're hammering the shit outta each other) and Kim Winslow.
Beat me to it. The finest at open mat gymnastics right there.
Big John is and always will be the greatest ref for being the guy who wrote the Unified Rules.
Rosenthal and Dean are probably my personal favorites. Not many bad calls between them.
Herb Dean and Big John got it on lockdown. No one can touch their skills
