Why was McGregor saying this as an insult?

I think it's commendable that Nate trains kids in martial arts... Wonderboy teaches Karate to kids at his dad's dojo.
 
Not everything you say is gonna be gold when you ramble for 5 minutes every time someone asks you a question.
 
It was a set up to the killer line about making balloons in the other hand. Basically he was painting the picture of Nate being a fake gangsta.

You might tink it's commendable.

McGregor tinks you're a bum who pretends to be a gangsta but has to teach kids and make balloons to make ends meet. That was the insult.

If Nate had wits he would have responded for example by asking Conor what he think of bum coach Kavanagh who also makes money teaching kids. But alas, the only person who has the IQ to pull that off on the spot is Dom Cruz and he's never fighting McGregor.
 
He was implying Nick isn't 'gangsta'. Conor actually came off like a huge douche. He was trying to set up his prepared line about the gang signs with one hand and balloons in the other but it failed badly. Someone isn't soft because they work with kids.

Ya, I got that the first time which is fine.

BUT - Conor repeats this line (training kids in JJ) later in the conference - I think he was implying he was poor and was doing it for the money / either way it was said in a derogatory tone.

I like McG a lot but some of what he says is just disrespectful and inappropriate.
 
Hell, I took that as an attempt at a compliment from McGregor.

Yeah McGregor tried to insult Diaz but just painted him as a valued member of his community, by the time he finished stumbling over his words and actually got to the one liner he had pre written it felt like I was watching a bad sitcom. The funny thing is McGregor fans were like "GENIUS!!!"

You can't be an upstanding member of the community while simultaneously glorifying the overdone gangsta culture that has made a cunt out of a large portion of American youth

Like I've BEEN saying... his Shtick is getting OLD fast. He used to say some witty things HERE and THERE....Now it's ALWAYS about the MONEY... How he's so rich, how he's the TOP paid UFC athlete, how you are NOT HIM so OTHERWISE YOU'RE POOR. How anyone who fights him is making there BIGGEST PAYDAYS off him, his CROCODILE skin shoes, His feathered pillow stuffed with endangered species Bald Eagle feathers he gets with his MONEY,that you DONT have... His CUSTOM TAILORED SUITS he got at the BABY GAP with his MONEY... I swear his suits are always a size or two too small... All he talks about is money money money, and material things... it's really gone to his head, maybe that's why his head is 2 times to big for his body and he looks like a walking bobble head...
 
But it's well known that Conor is also putting on a persona. He's as fake as they come. I bet the accent's not even real.
