This is going to be a stupid question, i'm sure. Could Intermittent fasting, or the warrior diet, work for a athlete who trains twice per day?
 
I dont hate you brother.

Honest advice,work your legs heavy the previous day with weights(strength training)

Next day you can fast comfortably but have BCAA's with water before each workout.

I guarantee that you wont lose muscle and your workouts will be great.

I have done IF but not tried the WD though.
 
You probably won't like this answewr, but it depends on how your body responds to the diet and your genetics/recovery abilities. In general, I don't think IF will work extremely well with that training frequency

Yeah, you can. Depends on how your schedule comes together though, and how much you love coffee. This is what my schedule looked like.

8AM - wake up
9-11:30AM - classes
11:30AM - first workout, fasted
1:00PM - eat largest meal
6:00PM - train again
7:30PM - eat another meal
Usually might have another snack sometime before 9PM.

or I would do this...

7AM - wake up
7:30AM - train, fasted
9-11:30AM - classes, drink coffee
11:30AM - train again
1-9PM - eat largest meal post workout, keep eating until 9, maybe work out again

I actually preferred the second schedule.

Read the leangains guide. The key is that you eat BCAA before working in a fasted state, otherwise, nothing else changes. If you don't plan to work on a fasted state, it's the same as any other type of training.

Berkhan says that training without BCAA while fasted is a waste of time.

What is BCAA. I thought it was just a brand that sold glutamine.

I always have this scrawny 100 lb kid telling me to take glutamine and protien to get big... *ignored as always*

Does not make him always right. Many athletes still train in a fasted state and do quite well. So it is fairly easy to object to said statement.

I have a site, does not mean I do not make mistakes. And calling training in a fasted state "worthless" is clearly a mistake. Hell, even my creaking old ass can manage it.

Branched chain amino acids. Leucine, isoleucine and valine.

Yes... but 10g BCAA doesn't fuck up the fast. It's essential amino acids, as you know by your other post, to build muscle and recover.

Training is initiated on an empty stomach and after ingestion of 10 g BCAA or similar amino acid mixture. This "pre-workout" meal is not counted towards the feeding phase. Technically, training is not completely fasted - that would be detrimental. The pre-workout protein intake, with its stimulatory effect on protein synthesis and metabolism, is a crucial compromise to optimize results. The 8-hour feeding phase starts with the post-workout meal.

I personally rarely lift fasted - so I don't even own BCAA - but I trust Berkhan's research and demonstrated results.
 
I don't know if your talking about his really long one or not, but I don't remember that.

I didn't read it too carefully, but its his most recent major publishing, or at least very recent. He's got pics of himself on it and all.

Never said it screws up the fast.

I am challenging the statement that training fasted is worthless. Fuck, I set an all-time deadlift PR while completely fasted at 44 years of age. I would like to see some sort of actual research supporting the statement that training in a fasted statement is worthless. Assertions mean nothing, and are easily shown to be false. There are vast numbers of athletes who train completely fasted, including many swimmers who perform their first morning workout fasted for multiple reasons when training twice per day.
