In light of all the GOAT talks and fans growing bitter towards fighters and their respective fan bases, I feel like we’ve grown desensitized as a community towards greatness and simply appreciating it when we see it. We are truly losing a bonafide legend of the sport tonight.

It doesn’t matter how Anderson Silva stacks up against GSP, Fedor, Khabib, or Jones in a silly opinion based conversation. What is indisputable is the fact that Anderson Silva was simply incredible and was capable of magic that can’t be replicated. Let’s show him some respect.

    What was your favorite moment?

I have to go with his front kick to Vitor Belfort in one of the most suspenseful buildups in MMA history.

His second fight with Chael. The buildup, the opponent, the finish.
Anderson was pushed to his limits in the first fight. Both guys are cheaters and it made for a real grudge match.

I really loved his UFC debut against Chris Leben, that was such a beautiful destruction!!!, it was one of the best debuts ever in UFC history. Every punch, kick and knee landed accurately and he missed nothing.

Leben may not be the greatest fighter ever but he did have an amazing chin, he had a really good chin! so the way Silva put him out was awesome.

I kinda liked that late Sub over Chael, Chael was a monster in that first fight and Silva still pulled through.
I wonder how Chael's career would of went if he had better Sub Defense.

The Griffin fight for me is the greatest performance anyone has ever had in MMA ever. Should have been a tough fight on paper and Anderson completely clowned the former LHW champ

The moment he's announced as the winner in the Nick fight. Looking back, he experienced one of the most darkest days in his life when he broke his leg and thought his career is over. He even mentioned he even questioned his faith on the Man upstairs on why did it happened to him. Seeing him comeback and did what everyone thinks can't be done again is just amazing. Seeing him broke down in tears just hits home.

And his most memorable quote is also in this video.
"Nick is the best" - Anderson "The Spider" Silva

It’s amazing what a little time does to repress certain details. Anyone who thinks Chael was just a clown is simply wrong. Excellent fighter and a formidable opponent who truly made Anderson Silva a superstar.

See. This is what happens to victories over time. They are downplayed/discredited badly. Now we have to read dumbass threads about how Adesanya is greater than Silva. Just ignorance.

    “Forrest was a bum.”

Oh really? The guy who drowned Shogun, outpointed Rampage, and was beating Rashad before getting finished? Anderson SMOKED him. It was incredible.

In a couple years when Adesanya loses we will have a new generation of ignorance that will go back and talk about how Costa was was a bum and how Romero had lost 4/5 during his run against Adesanya, and how he almost got beat by Gastelum, etc. I don’t hold any of these opinions, but this is what we do here. After his loss is contextualized you will find nobody saying he is better than Anderson. I don’t even mean to point the finger at Izzy, who is incredible himself. Just a general observation of our ungrateful attitudes.

he questioned his faith in God because he broke his leg? Yoel got his fucking neck broke and he never once questioned his faith. he didn't even believe the doctors when they said he'd never fight again. Anderson is lucky Yoel didn't smite him for his blaspheming.
