I've been seeing a lot of comments on Youtube lately, especially on 1980s, and older eras, from very young people who say they would have wanted to have grown up in that generation instead.

I'm not sure what's going on. I'm thinking kids today have grown up with their faces in front of screens and have missed out on what childhood was like back then.

Here's Maher talking about when he was a kid. Sounds pretty awesome minus the drilling into him part

It's because we older Millenials/Y Generation wipe the floor with their Z generation sensibilities.

We have the work ethic of Gen X, the political incorrectness of the 90's, and the political correctness of the 80's. We're fucking perfect.

We know how to use a computer and a hammer.

Grand Theft Auto 3 was the set up, & then Vice City anchored it in - the entire 80s retro craze.

I was born in the 90s and it's still my favorite time period and its not even close. Going outside and playing was so much better than what we have today.

    The 80's are terrible.
There's a sweet spot from like '91 to right before the second plane hit the towers that everything was perfect. In America at least. Sorry to the rest of you B-Level countries, ('Specially in the Balkans, big oof) but shit was so cash.

But you're right, Boomer, this is the best time to be alive objectively. There are just too many people like you out in the world making threads like this and other skullduggery we're exposed to on a daily basis.

Well I grew up in the 80's and i'm glad I did.

I get to enjoy the technology and advancements of today but didn't have to grow up like a sensitive bubble wrapped pussy. I actually played every sport known to man. I did dangerous shit. I enjoyed my childhood both outside and inside.

Gen X/Y are the best generations by far.

    84-97 GOAT for teens.

I had two peopel in their late 20's tell me they wished they had been teens in the 90's. We had more freedom from both our parents AND the media. Screens have poisoned a lot. Even with me they have.. Look how much I post here?

Older generations always pretend they had it harder than younger, but at the same time their youth was always more awesome, it's a strange one.

Unless you consider having to fight at least 1 or 2 times being "harder" I wouldn't say us 36-43 year olds had it "harder." Maybe if you were truly a mean spirited dork it was harder. The cool kids with good senses of humor put you in check if you wanted to sit on the outside and criticize like a bitch. You just couldn't do it like now. Now it's at work and it's a cancer. Cool people are becoming more rare, and it's a shame.

We could go outside without our parents getting the cops called on them. I would ride my skateboard or bike with the homies at night until like 9pm with no worries when I was in my youngin days before even being like 14. These days you cant do that shit. I would walk home alone with no fears, though it was creepy as fuck sometimes.
being born in the 80s was good shit, didnt even have internets at first, or cell phones...unheard of now.

EDIT: We also had to go to the library to look shit up. Even had door to door encyclopedia salesmen, what a world it was. /old

Young people seem to be way into the 80s for some reason. A couple of months ago I was watching a show that was set in the 80s with my son and commented that they did a good job recreating the feel of it.

He said, "It's not really accurate, though" and I just laughed and said, "I was there. You were born in 1996. What the hell do you know?"
