You would have been laughed at here if you suggested UFC was worth $1 billion

For years people on this forum would have laughed at you if you said UFC was worth that much, but here we are about to witness a sale and it turns out they're one of, if not THE most valuable sports franchise in the world.

My only point here is how much these forums try and minimize any and everything relating to the sport. It's pretty wild to look back on now that we have these facts.

Easy to turn a huge profit when your books aren't open to public scrutiny.

Dude it's the internet, idiots here speak with authority all the time. Not to be taken seriously most of the time.
Everyone here is a business and MMA mastermind.

If the UFC was so amazing, they wouldn't sell it.

Fact is that plenty of brands/leagues are ore valuable but they never sell them, why? Because they make too much profit.

Is that really the case? If you keep your books closed you just make a huge profit? Is that they key?

Easier to keep the profit margin a secret. To not let the lower-ranked fighters know how much they're being screwed since they don't know exactly how much the top earners are making. Do I really need to spell it out?

Lower ranked guys have no idea how much top earners are making? Lower ranked guys don't factor into this at all.

That's the funniest thing about this to me. They couldn't stop talking about how small the UFC was, now we all know better.

I'd bet my life the terms money and laundering have played a role in all of this before the 'sale' and will after. However crooked other owners may be, the UFC owners are on another level. It's not a sports league. It's a front for crime.

Not really, I guessed it was at 2 billion :)

Of course they matter. Think about how much money Zuffa is saving by keeping them at 12/12 or whatever the standard is currently at, with the promise of "discretionary bonuses." Imagine if they knew how much guys like Bisping (pre-champ), Shogun, Vitor, Faber, etc. are making outside of their already substantial disclosed pay. You don't think those no-name guys would be pissed?

And don't forget about how big the UFC roster is. There's a ton of no-name guys on the bottom of the pay scale. Zuffa may be paying more than other MMA orgs, but they're also paying these guys a ton less than some of their peers.

And don't forget about the "production costs" that Zuffa always touts for the same bland show they give us every time around.

It really is crazy TBH, insane numbers...I for one, had no idea

Exactly, the UFC has been "dying" for like 10 years, Dana, Lorenzo & Frank don't know Jack about business and so on.

Franchises get sold all the time. This is what I'm talking about with my post tho. Business experts on here minimizing shit constantly.

Teams get sold...leagues, don't get sold that often.

Op claims that it's the most valuable sport franchise....complete bullshit..NFL is worth way more.

12/12 is well above their market value. They pluck guys who fight on the regional scene and give them more than they were making. The people getting screwed are the top fighters.

The production complaints are ridiculous and I won't even get into that. UFC production is top notch. You're just used to it.

Don't lump me in with those people. I never said in earnest that UFC was dying, or that Zuffa doesn't know how to run business. They obviously do if they have been able to maintain a business model that keeps its numbers shrouded in secrecy.

LOL at people saying that the UFC 'shrouds its number in secrecy' as though that is some diabolical thing or something. Every privately owned company in the world does exactly the same, why are people acting like that is some big conspiracy? That is par for the course in the world of business, it's one of the exact reasons some large businesses don't float themselves, so they aren't open to rampant speculation on stock markets by idiots that comprise forums like these.
