You can't win a fight being dropped and almost finished 2 times and hurt another 10 times

Whittaker got beaten, it doesn't matter if he landed 100 striker more, in fact he landed less strikes overall than Romero and Yoel landed much more to the head. But the real story is that round 3 and 5 should have been 10-8 rounds, you could make an argument for round 4 going to Romero, so worst case scenario the fight should have been 47-46 for Romero and if you give round 4 to Romero, 48-45

I'd say it would be fair to consider round 5 a 10-8, but no rd 3 was not a 10-8, and Rd 4 clearly went to Robert.

A draw is the best case scenario for the LHW fighter tonight.

No 10-8 round, Yoel clearly lost 3 of those rounds.

What am I missing here?

That 10-8 rounds need to be a more common occurance, the 3rd round was a 10-8 imo, Romero landed something like 45 significant strikes to 10, Round 5 was even more dominant, yet none of the judges scored round 5 a 10-8, MMA needs to sort this out asap. a fighter who absolutely dominates 2 rounds but loses 3 rounds narrowly ends up losing the fight (I'm not saying this was the case in this fight as Whittaker clearly won the first 2 rounds but if he just narrowly edged those rounds he still would have ended up winning the fight)

I honestly don't see how either round Romero dropped Whittaker was 10-8.

You didn't watch the fight. You're only parroting what you heard on sherdog from trolls

Romero had 2 KDs and only wobbled Whittaker 2 other times seperate from the knockdowns

People are spreading some serious fake news about this fight

Brainwashed by Rogan's insanely biased commentary

It's funny the same people who say Conor vs Nate was close, will say Romero clearly beat Whittaker, yet Conor DOPPED Nate 3x..compared to Romero's 2. On top of that Conor actually dominated Nate consistently for large periods of time, unlike Romero who only had moments in second long spurts few and far between

No where was Romero ever close to actually putting Whittaker away

Whittaker always defended, neutralized and always came back enough with his own offence

Close but Whittaker won 1,2,4

People are so easily swayed by biased commentary. It's a damn shame

There is abosutely no way on earth round 5 was a 10-8

Romero dropped Whittaker ONCE, then the rest of the round was Whittaker holding on to a single or Romero hugging the back

Conor actually dropped Nate TWICE in one round and put an actual striking clinic on Nate, and yet still didn't get a 10-8. If round 2 of Conor vs Nate was not a 10-8, then Romero's 5th round sure as fuck was NOT even 1% close to a 10-8

Romero was no where close to any 10-8s

Rogan was pushing a serious Romero agenda

Idk why so many of you are having a hard time with this fight. Whittaker won 3 rounds and Romero won 2, easy decision. None of the rounds were 10 - 8.

If you want to change how UFC judges it's matches then you should petition for the change but until then, Whittakar won the fight.

Maybe what we need to do is determine who watched these title fights with no volume so they can fully see for themselves without any kind of commentary (and Rogan is most likely not even close to being the worst offender when it comes to MMA commentators; your chances of getting an impartial commentator are probably slim to none).

And to be sure there were indeed a few times where I looked at it and was thinking a highlight reel finish for Romero is coming, it's happening, we can sense it. In the end, though, Whittaker battled out of it on one of the most dogged title defenses ever and a 5 round fight can't really be judged on those moments.

It's not fair if Yoel's low % strikes don't produce immediate KOs.

Aren't there different criteria for judging now tho? More 10-8 rounds??

Not just fair, round 5 was absolutely a 10 - 8. That's as clear cut as it gets.

Round 3 is debatable, romero clearly won but how dominant was it. I gave it a 10 - 9 on first watch, but even then its a 47 - 47 score.

I think the best score for me would have been 47 - 47, i could also see 48 - 47 romero.

But 48 - 47 whittaker means they didn't give romero any 10 - 8 rounds which seems ridiculous.

I watched the fight without any bisased commentaries.
Witthaker got dropped and wobbled in the last 3 rounds. That's all i know.
I got Romero 3/2

You have no fucking clue at all how rounds are scored do you, lad?

And lol at rd 4 maybe going to Yoel. Rob outstruck him 40 to 15 or whatever.

Rd 3 was never going to be a 10-8 because it wasn't just one sided. Rob was firing back as well after the initial knockdown.

Mike jackson got a 10-8 today

Apparently you can. Otherwise, Hendo would have retired as the MW champion.
