Yoel was never in trouble or got rocked in the Whittaker fight

I don't see why Whittaker thinks he will put out Yoel now.

Whitaker doesn't, he himself said that this fight was 50/50.

He is taking Yoel seriously.

I rewatched that fight, and I am convinced that this is Whitaker's time. He is a special fighter, I hope he continues to develop in the same fashion.

The fact that he qualified for the Australian national wrestling team is a good sign that he is developing well. Australian wrestling is underdeveloped, but it's an impressive feat as it isn't his traditional background.

He still lost.

If it stays a "point" fight then I like Robert. Yoel has made his name in UFC for the big moment....and he sure has delivered many of them. He does pace himself and goes inactive for periods. This can get him behind on cards. If Robert can avoid the patented Yoel "big moment" he can get this done again.

Awesome fight. The right one at 185.

Whittaker won the first time with a fucked-up leg, there is nothing crazy in believing he can be even more dominant when healthy.

Put him on one knee from a left uppercut. Wasn't rocked though.

If yoel strikes and more and doesnt stick to wrestling he is fucked.

seems like the only fighter that can beat yoel currently is whittaker but i gotta say yoel looked great against luke he was calm composed and knew exactly when to attack.

I'm not sure why a nasty striker like Whittaker would think he could finish another fighter..it's just weird.

He was somewhat in trouble at the end of the fight when he got taken down, gasping for air with nothing left in the tank.

I watch the fight and see holes in whittakers game, hopefully has his teep defence ready.

I expect yoel to pull back on the wrestling

Yoel was allowed back to Cuba after Whittaker fight, now he trains there for his wrestling, so he might just fix his holes, the elite wrestler that he is, that prevented him to take down Whittaker last time. More than that, he now has a new taekwondo coach that taught him that well balanced aware rush that he did against Luke, not to mention the questionmark kick on shortnotice, so Yoel might start teeping Whittaker to keep him at distance as other tool besides the threatening oblique kick.

Such an incredibly interesting fight.

Whittaker got his leg fucked up already in round 1. Age is not on Yoel's side either.

I like Romero in the rematch, so smart and calculated, I see him learning from the last fight and making the necessary adjustments.

I think Romero learned from his first fight against Whittaker.

Romeros downfall in his first fight against him was his poor pacing in between rounds , he's an explosive fighter so therefore he has to find openings to land something powerful , he showed that against Rockhold last time.

He's going to come into this rematch knowing he has to explode when the time is right to prevent himself from gassing to early ( due to going for failed takedown attempts ) in the fight in which what happened in the first fight.

Whittaker DID have a compromised knee after the first round, and still won.

Also, in response to the thread, Whittaker was never in grave danger in that fight either.

I think, if anything, we have to give Whittaker the advantage here since he will have two healthy knees, is significantly younger, while Romero is fading physically. Whittaker is likely the one that have developed the most since their last fight.

1 year older than when they previously fought, 1 year is significant at yoels age. whittaker will have both legs this time but after major surgery he could still be hampered somewhat. yoel looked great vs luke but i thought he was being VERY careful with energy expenditure, a little too careful imo and possibly a sign that he knows his cardio will struggle 5 rounds vs a fighter like whittaker considering he is another year older and he struggles in the late parts of the 1st fight. whittaker is still young and will be even better this time out. yoel has plateau'd in his skillset and while he's one of the most exciting fighters to watch I reckon bobby knuckles gets the tko late in the 4th after a close fight with yoel obviously slowing down and whittaker applying more pressure early.

So he never got caught, or rocked... Whitaker just beat him by being better? Cool; this confirms that Yoel wins the rematch I guess.

God is on his side, Romero is gonna KO Whittaker this time. He knows it´s probably his last opportunity at this stage of his career. Whittaker is one tough sob, but I believe Romero was too hesitant and trigger shy in the 1st fight imo. After his KO over Luke, I think he´s gonna come in very confident in his hands.
