How many rounds is Romero's gas tank good for?

Yoel Romero has heard the questions about his cardio... Heading into a five-round interim middleweight title fight with Luke Rockhold in the main event of UFC 221 this Saturday in Perth, Australia, Romero was asked if he was concerned at all with criticism about his ability to compete for 25 minutes.

“People’s opinions, you’ve got to respect them,” Romero told Submission Radio. “If people think that I don’t have five-round cardio, ask Robert (Whittaker) how he felt when he was fighting me in the later rounds....

“But look at my age. Look at my form. Do I have cardio or do I not have cardio? If I’m number one in the world, it’s for a reason. People can talk about the cardio all they want, but the results show it. So people behind me, they have to have really, really bad cardio also.”

Romero lost a hard-fought unanimous decision to Robert Whittaker last July at UFC 213 in another five-round interim title bout, but balks at the suggestion that it was his level of fitness that was his undoing.

Number one bullshit.

He basically gasses in every round but manages to recover pretty quickly. Five rounds are possible if he takes enough time off during the fight.

The thing is, yeah he can go 5 rounds and be dangerous in later rounds but he really takes his foot of the peddle and coasts at times, to help preserve his energy.

He's not one of these guys with a big output who can go for 5 rounds straight. He's more of an moments fighter, he'll have a few explosive moves per round to attempt to do damage and then he'll conserve his energy the rest of the time.

Even in doing so, he visibly tires in later rounds. His cardio is mediocre, but to his credit he manages to work around it well.

He's primed for 2, can survive 5 if the pace isn't pushed too hard.
If Yoel wins, which he should, it will be within the first 3.

Lukes best chance is to spam the clinch.

Anyone who says less than 3 is categorically wrong and may actually be retarded.

I give him 3 rounds max

Most likely 2 due to Luke’s heavy body kicks and crazy scrambling/ground game which I think is gonna catch Yoel by surprise

This is if Romero doesn’t KTFO him in the first, which is a very real possibility

Your post made me realize that if this guy wins the title his fights are gonna look like Woodley's.

Go Rockhard

With his little output he gives in a fight, sure he has gas for 5.

If he output more, he'd absolutely gas.

Doesn't matter how big your gas tank is .. Especially if there isn't any gas in it

I still say Jacare beat Romero, but at the end of their 3 round fight Romero didn’t seem too crazy tired. I mean he had drastically slowed down but he was still fighting. I’d say he gasses in the championship rounds.

3 after that he is either shitting himself, sitting down clueless on the stool or poring water all over him.

Notice how he didn't try lose the extra weight in the extra 2 hours? He's preserving his energy already. If Luke can use his JJ and hold dominant position Romero is toast after 2.

DIDNT THE UFC SAY HE HAS A GAS TANK THE SIZE OF A FORD ESCORT???
