Media Yoel Romero reacts after Izzy suggests that he “ruined” their fight at UFC 248

its almost like standing still and getting outlanded from the outside is a shitty strategy

he was not getting "outlanded". volume of leg kicks doesn't beat significant strikes that do damage. Izzy could've kicked Yoel in the legs 50 times in the first round, that one punch Romero got him with alone is enough for him to win the round.

It was more on Yoel to force the issue. Hes the shorter wrestler who needed to close distance on the tall, rangy striker. Not only that but it was very likely his last chance to get a belt too (and he lucked into the opportunity in the first place) but he just stood there for 5 rounds and let Izzy chip away safely from distance.

That's fuckin retarded LOL. Even 5-6 heavy leg kicks outweighs one good shot like that.

LOL, standing in the middle is exactly what a shorter inside fighter should be doing.
This. This. This.
Romero is the smaller man and taking control of the center of the cage with his back to the center of the octagon is what ANY trainer would gameplan for the shorter brawler style vs the longer technical kickboxer

Yoel was never the smart guy, he lost 3 title fights
and he seem to play it safe at some point in each of these fights
no risk no reward,
you want the belt, you have to step inside the dangerous zone period

He doesnt have The cardio anymore. Just simple aging.

What about not just standing in the middle of the cage Yoel ?

So why should he chase a guy who is not willing to stand in the middle too?

Yoel blew it. He wasn't aggressive enough.
I don't understand what he was thinking. He should have gone all out, even if he wound up getting TKOed.

So why should he chase a guy who is not willing to stand in the middle too?
Because that guy has the top prize in your division and you want to take it from him. It would not have taken much more aggression to swing this decision in Yoel's favor

Izzy is right, it was up to Yoel to beat the champ, standing there eating leg kicks and throwing one overhand every 5 minutes does not win you fights.

It's amazing how so many blame Romero and not Izzy.

As if Izzy is the only one allowed to be a counter striker.

Izzy was scared and any unbiased observer saw it.

Based on this logic, title contenders should chase champions (and lower ranked fighters should chase upper ranked fighters) just because wow, they want something.

How about the fighter who might lose his belt (or get a lower rank) step up in the middle of the octagon and fight?

inb4 Don Frye Vs. Yoshihiro Takayama gif - I am not talking about stupid brawling. You can be technical without avoiding a fight and throwing 2 punches in an entire round.
