Yale students call for "decolonization" of literary studies

Not a day goes by when SJWs don't further prove just how retarded they are, so here's Wednesday 8th June, 2016's example...

We have been discussing the erosion of free speech and academic standards at our universities and colleges. What is alarming is not only the pace of such demands but the support of some faculty to stripping away core courses and historical references. The latest such example can be found at Yale University with undergraduate students have demanded that the English department abolish a core course requirement to study such writers as Chaucer, Shakespeare and Milton. Students claim that it is “unacceptable that a Yale student considering studying English literature might read only white male authors.” Of course, this is not the only course for students but simply one course designed to introduce students to “major English poets.” However, the students find it oppressive and some faculty support their cause like English Professor Jill Richards who insisted that “it is unacceptable that the two-semester requirement for all majors routinely covers the work of eight white, male poets.” The students have demanded that “It’s time for the English major to decolonize — not diversify — its course offerings.”

Yet, the students have denounced the course as oppressive and dehumanizing: “A year spent around a seminar table where the literary contributions of women, people of color, and queer folk are absent actively harms all students (ROFL), regardless of their identity . . . The Major English Poets sequences creates a culture that is especially hostile to students of color. When students are made to feel so alienated that they get up and leave the room, or get up and leave the major, something is wrong.”

If an Ivy league school can descend into this. Then eventually degrees from schools ideally become nothing. And skill set will matter more.

Sounds good to me. Chaucer sucked. Poetry should be omitted altogether. If you're going to college for literature then maybe that's what needs reevaluated.

Poetry is like wine. It's for people who want to feel important without having any real talent. They want to feel like they have a real understanding of literature. Like wine connoisseurs. They are just jerking each other off. Who even cares. But I do enjoy seeing SJW's destroy real liberal educations with their whining. They are trying to dismantle meritocracy and base everything of who you're family is, who you were born too, who you are attracted too. SJW's want to go back to the dark ages and it's hilarious to watch. They are the most pathetic group of people. At least crazies on the right are often self sufficient and can live off the land while talking about the earth being 7,000 years old. SJW's are just retarded. They should make everybody read work that makes them uncomfortable. Social justice warriors should be forced to intelligently engage with straight white male authors, conservative white guys should immerse themselves in the thoughts of trans queer people of color.

I took a class on modern American fiction in college, there was a little Faulkner (three stories), but I was already pretty familiar with his work by that time. The rest of the class was devoted to work by women of color, Tony Morrison and Sandra Cisneros are the two I can remember, and while I didn't like any of the books very much, giving them the benefit of the doubt I found at least a little common ground with them here and there. Of course, that was a single core curriculum seminar, I'd imagine years of immersion in that kind of program would make people a little self righteous and soft.

On a serious note, I hope there is a movement afoot at this university, and others, to counter this madness. The regressive left continues to show that they are not only composed entirely of useful idiots, but that it's never enough for them. If giving them an inch means they want a mile, don't give them an inch.

Their crusade will fail, but it's up to all of us to stop them.
