Part of me despises fatties, on the other hand I do feel sorry for them, the shit we eat these days is ridiculously packed with all kinds of fat and sugar. Our bodies are preprogrammed to crave this shit, so I can understand the argument that it's hard for some people. Imagine if they put crack in everything we ate, are you then going to be surprised that people get addicted?

Problem is the FDA is in the pockets of big business, unless shit is outright killing you, they don't care, and big food companies know they can sell more things by throwing loads of cheap sugary, fatty shit into the food. Same problem we have a lot of places in America, big business is put before a responsible outlook or people. Eating good takes discipline!

Both parents working outside the house is another reason I believe. Stay-at-home Mom used to be the family nutritionist and meal planner and cook and kids and parents would eat way more healthy meals as a result.
Yeah, it's the womans fault for daring to have a career.

So whats the solution, the government starts telling people what they can and can't eat? Michelle Obama tries to get people to eat healthy and all of a sudden it's some socialist conspiracy, wait and see what happens when they start actually forcing people to eat healthy.

That's a legitimate argument.

Without derailing the thread...if labeling starts tomorrow and all the helicopter mommies that have no idea what GMO even means immediately stop buying anything with that label, it could fuck up the entire food supply around here and screw up a lot of farmers and have other effects.

Maybe that's all a good thing if GMO's are actually causing harm, but I don't think the science supports that yet. Labeling sounds good, but the fear is that the labels get misused and misunderstood.

denying customers info is NOT legitimate, and the idea of causing harm is irrelevant imo.

How are we supposed to take responsibility for ourselves/kids etc when important info is missing?

With all due respect, fuck those farmers and companies who made the choice to make more money to use GMO. Its business- no one is guaranteed to make money.

Thats ridiculous. GMO is making people fat? Thats so lacking in scientific basis I hardly know where to begin.

I think it's just a case of the FDA needing to be a lot more strict about what they allow through the net, both in terms of what's in the food and also what they allow food companies to get away with when advertising/labelling their food.

Watch this video for an idea of what I'm talking about:

Well that's the whole thing. Is it important? Does GMO change your food in any sort of meaningful way, or is it really neither here nor there? If you step outside the yoga studio, you'll find the science isn't really conclusive on that at all. Should we label what color shoes the butcher wears when he cuts the meat too? The brand of tractor the farmer choose to use to harvest your beans? How dare we deny you, the customer, that information!

reread the posts. We were discussing GMO as an example of transparency for customers and NOT anything else.

the GMO thing was kinda OT I know but read it agin and I think it will make sense

its kinda like hold porn saying: you know it when you see it. I think its pretty self evident that manipulating the biological code of a thing (sorry no better word lol) is 'material' to decision making.

but hey, I'm the parent who wants coke's packaging to be limited like cigarettes here in Canada. Maybe the grams of sugar in huge letters 1/2 the size of the can, with a pic of a fat kid.

Or you could just do what my parents did. When I asked them to buy Coke, they'd say "No."

Every banana you eat is a GMO, btw. Genetic modification is just a faster form of domestication, which we've been doing for thousands of years.

Y'all need to start portioning your foods properly. There's no reason to supersize everything with free refills and whatnot. A medium is enough in most cases.

i'm just gonna assume a lot of these people are in a 'dirty' bulking phase.

At 5'10 - 190, I'm borderline obese. I better get to the gym

BMI is a terribly flawed system. It was developed as soldiers were returning from WWI, where starvation and lack of supplies was a rampant problem. Most of the "doughboys" were actually quite the opposite, returning as almost skeletons of their former selves. To make matters worse, that was also the time of a massive flu epidemic. For those of you who have ever had the flu, you'll know what I'm talking about. You lose weight between the sweating, diarrhea, vomiting, and lack of appetite. Combine these factors, and it's easy to see why BMI doesn't accurately capture what a healthy person looks like today. I stand at about 5'11, and back before I started packing on muscle, I was a very lean 175. I was considered borderline obese back then. Now, it probably says that I'm about to die of a heart attack, even though I have less than 10% body fat.
