GOP trying bring Sharia Law via "muh rights"
The Wyoming Republican Party, however, is urging its constituents to oppose it not because the bill is too weak, but because it believed the bill stood to rob their constituents of constitutional rights in ways the "seemingly harmless" bill did not immediately make clear.
Among other points, the letter argued that preventing children under 16 years old from marrying "denies the fundamental purpose of marriage,"

"Marriage is the only institution in Wyoming Statute designed to keep a child's father and mother living under the same roof and cooperating in the raising of any children that they, together, conceive. That is the NATURAL RIGHT of every child" the group wrote.

The email continues that since minors are capable of bearing children before they are 16, marriage should be an open option "for the sake of those children."
Yeah because the kids already had a massive life altering (likely accidental) event, lets compounds it by making sure they can get married too. Psychos.

Interestingly enough, California also allows this. As per the same article. Also mentions that republicans In Wyoming are at least making a minimum age of 16, rather than unrestricted.

Dunno why a progressive state like CA would have no restrictions? I wonder why that is not even discussed. I didn’t even know about this issue. but yea it ducked up. I guess it makes more sense in a state like Wyoming with maybe Mormons? And 16 could help with babies being born for benefits I guess.

but what is this unrestricted stuff?

anyways, from the article:

Currently, Wyoming is one of just eight states in the country—including California, Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Washington and West Virginia—without a minimum age requirement for marriage, and it currently ranks among the top ten states in the country for child marriages, according to a 2021 study by advocacy group Unchained at Last.

....what the fuck

If you read the article, it makes some sense if you think that a 16 year old who gives birth may need to marry husband who is over 18 to get benefits. And does require consent from guardian/parent.

in that context is does make sense. I guess like abortion, it is a really tricky subject and warrants more discussion from both sides.

I mean I didn’t even look into the abortion issue much until a few years ago. And I didn’t even know about or think about a law like this until right now

No, it doesn't make sense. If you have a 16 year old who got pregnant by someone over 18, your solution should not be "Oh, lets let them get married so they can take advantage of the shitty health care system in the USA."

what would be the solution?

To a 16 year old getting pregnant? No clue, that's between the mom, the father, and their parents but it doesn't take a genius to understand marriage isn't going to fix anything. It just screams more forced religion non-sense. What the hell is marriage going to do? Force the kids to stay in a relationship longer than they want to because they don't want to deal with a divorce? Sounds like a good way to have a toxic relationship/household for the baby.

what would be the solution?
Proper funding and time for sexual and reproductive education in schools.

Safe and free access to birth control.

Safe and free access to abortion clinics.

EDIT: Y'Know all the evidence based solutions that reduce abortion and teen pregnancy Republicans campaign against because. . . Wait for it, the claim to hate abortions and want to "save" the children.

15 year old.... this would make the minimum 16.

I'm pretty sure we all know the solution for adults impregnating girls 15 and under.

If you’re implying something about abortion, i 100% agree there needs to be a better discussion about it, which I literally said in the post you quoted. I think both sides on the issues are unrealistic and both disgusting. More so the democrats tho

No, I'm implying that men who get 15 year old girls pregnant should be executed.
