First of all let me say this. I come from TKD lineage, both of my parents are black belts under the Moo Duk Kwan lineage. I trained in TKD as a kid and some as an adult and never understood TKD bashing. We kicked hard, sparred hard, and several hand techniques, we did katas as well.
But today I went along with a friend to a WTF School. UTTER GARBAGE.
No technical instruction, no hand techniques whatsoever, hands at the waist, weak roundhouse kicks. THEY WERE ACTUALLY TELLING ME NOT TURN ALL THE WAY INTO MY ROUNDHOUSE KICK!!!!

This is already common knowledge. WTF is a point sparring system, they aim for rapidness rather then efectivness. It's as usefull for real life fighting as lawn bowls. If you are going to critisize it don't look at it as a combat martial art but rather as a sport. Yes it is basically garbage.

Welcome to the rest of the world's view of TKD. You're now free to go on a long Angry Video Game Nerd-esque cursing rant.

There are many ways of doing a roundhouse. They way they wanted you to kick was probably having your foot at 45 degree angle. It is fast and can make sound on the hogu but it won't be powerful compared to when you have your foot at a 90 degree angle which will allow you to kick through the target and both make sound and be powerful.

Although with the electronic hogu's out now sound doesn't mean shit. You HAVE to hit the LaJust system at 90 degrees or it won't score, I know this from experience.
