It's almost here, the WSOF Lightweight tournament is next Friday.Surprised there's not much people talking about it, I think this is the first 8-man one night tourney in a major MMA org in the United States since 1996 (UFC UU96). Very stacked tournament as well, some UFC vets, former WSOF title challengers, and a couple of prospects. Even the alternate bouts are decent. My bets are on Brian Foster or Islam Mamedov.

Who are your picks for winning the tournament and/or the individual fights?

Mamedov
Ricci
Foster
Palomino

Then we have to see the matchups, but I also see Islam and Brian with a good chance of winning

Good tournament they put together.

I will go with Mamedov

This should be awesome, but theres no way it plays out properly.

I also highly doubt that Ricci will actually show up for this one...

I'm going with Foster 3 KOs. I have said it before but no way Palomino should be allowed in this tournament, he has taken waaaay to much damage as of late and now expected to fight potentially 3 fights and 7 rounds. What a joke that commission is for allowing that.

I've got my tickets for this and I'm pumped! WSOF doesn't get much love around here but I've enjoyed it more than the "new bellator" lately. I've got Islam winning this but I really don't care I'm going to an 8 man one night tourney that's enough for me

Those are my picks for the match ups as well, though I do expect to see an upset or two in there. I also pick Burley and Madrid in regards to the alternate bouts

Hope you have fun there! The last several WSOF events were really good, hope they can stay alive through next year.

For sure, if I had to only pick one fighter, it would be Foster. I also agree on not putting Palomino in the tournament, but I guess they need some barnburners for the tournament. Palomino vs Patishnock should be a good fight.

the more one night tournaments there are, the better the world is.

Now all we need is some pride rules with these tourney in a modified ring.

I don't wanna jinx it, but I can't see this tourney playing out without something going wrong. 3 fights in one night at such a high level is just a recipe for a fuck up. With that said, I like Foster or Palomino to win it all.

I think Ricci is a good pick here. Kid is talented and underrated. Forget the Colton Smith fight.

The brackets have already been set:

I think you're spot on with your first round winners. I'll go for Islam Mamedov beating LaRue Burley as Mike Ricci sustains an injury in his narrow victory over Brian Cobb. Brian Foster will take out Luis Palomino, but he won't be able to make the final after sustaining too much damage against the Peruvian, thus leaving Mamedov defeating his fellow countryman Ramil Mustapayev to take the tournament.

It's a great tournament.

I enjoyed Battlegrounds 8 man tournament last year as well, which Roan Caneiro won. The only slight difference here, is that all fights were 3 rounds in that tournament. Only the finals is 3 rounds in this WSOF one. Stoked for it, though.

Plus, if he somehow pulls this thing out, now we're stuck with Gaethje/Palomino 3. I'd like to see Gaethje fight someone new.

Mamedov and Ricci are the safe bets imo

Foster and Palomino are the dark horses

Yeah, I agree. A screw up or two is bound to happen in this. I'm surprised they even got 8 guys who wanted to do the tournament. No way more than a couple of top 15 UFC LW guys would want to do a one-night tournament. It's a very high risk kind of thing but with a very high reward as well. Being the winner of an 8-man one nighter would look very good on anyone's resume.
