How many of you actually use wristlocks?
I tapped a BB with one yesterday (triangle->armbar->gogoplata-> triangle wristlock), but they dont seem to be very popular in Pride, UFC, ADCC, etc.

I don't usually use wristlocks for the sub but I do use them to help get the arm for an armbar. It does seem they would be effective though.

^I got tapped by that in a comp. Before i thought it was unmanly and rubbish. But since last the ADCC im totally into them if nothing goes. I use them to get an arm or even a sub. The problem is the pain is not as excessive as the one from an armbar.

wrist locks have a higher risk of injury then your typical submissions,
kinda like a heel hook. So I think they should be banned in competition.

i use the same one described (with the omoplata) as well as one from top of side mount, but thats just a setup to get a farside armbar.

I assume BB= blue belt? :)

Yeah, wrist locks can be great. I use them mostly from attacking the armbar, and the reason that I don't finsh them often is that my opponent usually gives up the arm bar at that point. If they are stubborn I'll finish the wrist lock though.

Laimon (Instructor of Cobra Kai) tapped Ricardo Pirez (Instructor of Las Vegas Combat Club) at the ADCC trials with a wristlock in like 18 seconds a few years ago.

I use one to set up an armdrag, usually when my opponent is in my guard.

The reason you don´t see wristlocks in MMA is a simple one - the wrappings and gloves give a lot of support to the wrist, they are designed to protect the wrist from bending/breaking during punching, and do the same if you try to bend it during grappling.

I trained with a guy a few years back, when I first took some intro lessons to Muay Thai. He kept showing me all these HKD wristlocks before we started warming up....once I had my wrappings on he couldn´t get them to work at all.

I dont mess witht hem in rolling because i think the wrist is nothing you want to hurt on a training partner. The wrists when used to sub is normaly snatched and done quickly not giving the opponent much time to tap, and also some times making it unable for them to tap..

If you break a mans wrists or just injure it one good time, he could be out of the sport and alot of other things for a very long time. Wrsits dont heal so easy and there is so much that could go seriously wrong requiring surgery to fix.

If you know them great, but i dont like to make them part of my practice in bjj. I want to be able to train every day, twice a day even.. As hard as I can. Throw wristlocks into a daily occurence now all the sudden you are to injured to train so often.

I tap as soon as possible when people reach for them, just so i can keep training and not have to worry about messing up my wrist. Just last week it happened and i had to wear a wrist brace for a week. It still hurts to post on that side.

Like anything, they are good to have knowledge of. You don't want to make them your whole game. I use them all the time to get guys to let go of my lapel when standing. I started out in Japanese JiuJitsu years ago, so hence my love for them. I actually tapped a guy out with a standing wristlock(4 stripe blue belt) in the first BJJ tournament I fought in as a Blue.

I have a back ground in Aikijujitsu so I use them, often times when im being grabbed for something i use them to set up an arm or leg bar

i try to go for them if i remember yeah and the thing about the mma gloves your right i have a pair and you can't well its very hard to try and do a wristlock
