Is the sizing the same as for regular shoes? I know this might sound stupid, but sometimes different styles are different.

Plus, what, in your opinion, would be a decent, less expensive shoe? I'm looking for a shoe to lift in as well as grapple in.

They tend to run a little bit smaller than normal shoes, but at the sime time that is true to size. After wearing them for a week or so the shoes stretch out a bit so if you get a pair that feel perfect right off, you are probably gonna end up with a pair that is slightly too big.

Most larger shoe stores carry a couple kinds. Just try some on to get an idea of what size you need. Then order whatever it is you want. If you wear tennis shoes loose like I do, you might want to go a size smaller in wrestling shoes so they'll be nice and snug.

I always liked Asics. They've been making wrestling shoes the longest and they have the most to choose from. You can get an older version for pretty cheap and they will do just fine for what you need.

Pay attention to the description of the shoes. Some of the high end competition shoes have really soft rubber on the soles, so they wear out pretty fast of you wear them off the mat. And I assume your weights aren't on the mat. It's kind of like racecar tires, really soft rubber = good grip, but wear out fast.

And I just read this description for an Asics shoe regarding size:
"Remember to add a 1/2 size to your normal gym shoe size. Do not use your current wrestling shoe size to order Asics Shoes." Maybe a little has changed since I bought wrestling shoes they used to be the same as all the others. You better try some on.

I lift at home, so it's just on regular carpet.

I have a pair of asics and they are the same size as my regular shoes. The shoes stretch out a bit, so if you have feet that are kind of in between half sizes order a a half size down. Try them on at a store if you can, most wrestling shoes in regular athletic stores will be fine, and even some top level guys use those or similar shoes. You don't need to drop a lot of $ on wrestling shoes. I used mine throughout high school and they had good grip and everything and maybe cost 50 or 60 at most. The expensive shoes have some gimicky features that are nice, but not necesary, such as built in lace covers etc.

I've always used Adidas wrestling boots and the length seems to be true but maybe slightly narrower across than regular shoes. No idea on the other brands though, always been happy enough with Adidas' boots.

i have nikes. they're decent, and since wrestling shoes are soft they'll form/stretch a bit to your foot.
