So I was doing a google and put in "wrestling in Sydney".

And to put it mildly WTF is going on.

1st one to come up is an unfinished site for in school wrestling, no good but no issue

2nd one, boxing gym which offers a combined BJJ and wrestling class, not bad, might have a looksie some day.

3rd one, shit starts to get weird,

Sydney Submission Wrestling Club Rules

"Do you want to wrestle? Does the idea of fighting another man until he submits to you appeal?"

Ummm sounds a little bit funny don't ya think.
Maybe english is not a strong suit so lets read on,

Various rules sets varying from
# White rules:
No eye gouging, no choke or sleeper holds, no slams, no pile drivers, no finger bending, no punching or kicking. Submission by tapping the mat or opponent, or by saying "I submit". Attacker must immediately release the hold.

down to

# Black rules:
No choke holds, no pile drivers. Submission by tapping the mat or opponent, or by saying "I submit". Attacker must release the hold within 2 minutes, or if their opponent loses consciousness, or by referee's order.

Hold for up to 2 minutes after they tap????
Eye gouging is legal and yet no choke holds?????

Those cnuts be crazy.

4th one,

Harbour City Wrestling Club
www.hcwc.com.au/

Harbour City Wrestling Club is a gay/gay friendly not-for-profit group learning amateur Olympic Freestyle Wrestling in Sydney. Established in 1993, Harbour City .

Gay friendly yeah alright whatever, but gay focused ahh no thanks.

5th one,
Pro wrestling.

6th one it gets more normal.

Pretty much. As someone that used to wrestle quite seriously up until a couple of years ago...the difficulty I found in finding a good wrestling club that trained regularly was the main reason I stopped doing freestyle.

Back at my old junior school Mosman prep we had freestyle wrestling. Was fun but its a shame no high schools or unis do it here.

Wrestling in Australia is a sad joke.
Harsh but true.

I know a few Bjj guys who cross train in freestyle wrestling over at Sydney uni.. Heard they were pretty good. Check them out.

Excellent news and bad news, Leonid does the wrestling class at my MMA gym (never knew he was someone of note), but unfortunately the time he does it (once per week) about as bad for me as it could be.

Think I shall have to reorganise and make sure I can make it.

Thanks

It was my understanding that the Australian Olympic Wrestling team's coach was based in Melbourne and taught out of the Hawthorn Wrestling Club in Altona?

The olympic wrestling coach could be but I know for a fact that Leonid trains at my gym in Sydney and is scheduled to take a class next week.
