WRECK-IT RALPH Sequel Announced for March 9, 2018 Release

Walt Disney animation is gonna wreck-it … again! The animation studio has unveiled a sequel to Wreck-It Ralph that will hit theaters March 9, 2018.

Wreck-It Ralph director Rich Moore and screenwriter Phil Johnston made the announcement via a Facebook Live video on the Disney page.

Also on hand for the big reveal was Wreck-It Ralph star John C. Reilly. "We are announcing Wreck-It Ralph? But I already announced that by accident," said Reilly in the video while wearing imitation Ralph hands. "Yes, several times," replied Moore.

In the 2012 original, Reilly played Ralph, the misunderstood villain in an eight-bit video game who decides to change his persona and become the "good guy." Reilly and Sarah Silverman, who played the wise-cracking Vanellope von Schweetz, will both return for the sequel.

Moore and Johnston, who also worked together on Walt Disney's last animation release, Zootopia, will co-write and co-direct the Wreck-It Ralph sequel.

WRECK-IT RALPH 2 Story Teases Ralph Wrecking the Internet and TRON References

Wreck-It Ralph 2 director Rich Moore has revealed some story details in an exclusive interview with Collider. John C. Reilly, who voices the film’s titular hero, promised, “Ralph leaves the Arcade and wrecks the Internet.”

“It’ll be just like the first one. So it will be exactly four years, or no, six years after the first Wreck-It Ralph. The current day timeline,” Moore said.

“You know, I think like, 'Super Wreck-It Ralph is a great title,' and even like bringing up TRON, because I loved that game too, as a teenager," Moore said. "And we weren’t able to work it into the first one, and as of right now, I can tell you that there is a nod to TRON. If it will make it to the very end of the process, that’s always part of our journey. But definitely I’m a fan of that game and of those films, so it would be really nice to have it in.”

"So this time we’re going to take that same [world building] technology [used in Big Hero 6 and Zootopia] and build a very fantastic world," Moore added. "A world of the Internet and what that would look like. And try to capture, for the first time in a big movie, we are now growing up with the Internet and seeing what it is, and trying to kind of visualize that for the first time and send characters into that world."

Better than Up, Wall-E, Brave, Zootopia, Frozen ect. Best animated movie since Toy Story 3. I have a four year old daugter and she's ignited my love for animated films. I felt there was a drop off in quality/originality between the Lion King/ Toy Story (early-mid 90's) until the early- mid 2000's with Monsters Inc. Finding Nemo. Now that the return is worth the resources studios are focusing their creativity on animation. Sony has had Hotel Transylvania. DreamWorks is DreamWorks. Disney and pixar both collaborating and doing their own thing and illumination with the despicable me, minions anr now Pets, animation isnt just for kids or the comedy lovers.

Yeah , because Brave rode the Pixar reputation and Wreck it Ralph was more unconventional, although it was much better.
