I am in the process of training my grip intensely, mostly due to the fact that my grip slips off everytime I deadlift in the mid 300s. Should I use wraps until I build up my grip more? I know deads work grip very well but I dont wanna have to stop at a lighter weight because my grip gives out. Any suggestions?

just go to your local sports shop. I bought some hooks and they suck. Stick to straps. And only use when you HAVE TO so you won't cheat yourself of grip training

You might as well get some straps to allow you to deadlift heavy, work your grip hard and it should soon catch up. There's no point not strengthening your back just cos' you're waiting months for your hands to catch up.

BTW what's your grip routine look like?

Do yourself a favor and order the blue Ironmind straps if you're going to go that route. They're cheap and they're indestrctible.

I just bought some cheap straps but am a numbnut and apparently did not secure them correctly so I dropped the weight anyways.

I REALLY need to look into grip training since I have bitch hands.

I say use em for deadlift but also train your grip. Like it was said before, no point in stopping back workouts just because your grip can't handle it. Train both separately until you've caught up or made some decent progress.

Chalk goes a long way in helping your grip.

Personally, I never used straps when learning to deadlift...I just worked myself from the ground up.

+1 for chalk. I've never had to worry about grip problems though. I'm looking to get some straps for thumbless bor and shrugs.

My grip routine consists on mainly farmers walks and heavhy wrist curls.

Make a wrist roller, buy some captain of crush grippers and possibly a sledgehammer; use regularly.

will do, thanks

i need to buy some straps man my hands get way to sweaty when deadlifting

If your gym doesn't let you use chalk, get some Grrrip Plus. I've tested all the non-chalk grip aids and it's, by far, the best. It's not tacky and it's comp legal.

definitely get chalk...it may solve all your problems for time being.....

I felt like an utter muppet the first time I used chalk, how the hell had I thought I could work without it?

chalk is great
alos use straps when you need them
i found i could only get so far without them
but the key is to continually push your grip failure point
say you do 200kg to failure on grip then 220kg with straps
the next time you dead try to push your failre point to say 202kg
keep pushing the failure point and your grip will improve
also try timed holds when doing rack deadlifts
you may not be able to pick 220kg up from the floor without straps but you can pick it up in the rack deadlift
this will get you used to the weight and holding it
