i have been hitting the bag a lot out the back garden and i do use hand wraps but my wrists have been quite sore as of late ! , anyone know why ?

The gloves im using are 10oz adidas kickboxing gloves ?

maybe im wrapping my hands the wrong why ?

thanks for any help

3rd times a charm. Invest in bag gloves. Make sure wraps are 180 inches, make sure you wrap well

get long, good quality wraps.

hook around your thumb, once around the wrist, once between each of your fingers, then go to town on your knuckles, thumb and in your case pay special attention to your wrist

Get bigger gloves... 12 oz. Maybe even larger depending how big your are. And how much experience do you have hitting a heavy bag? Could be a technique problem. Maybe you have weak forearms, weak wrists. Look into doing strength training for the forearms. I train them 3 times a week.

As for hand wraps... I use hand wraps 180 or longer and I add extra padding like knuckle guards, Sometimes I'll have someone help me put some proper gauze between wrap arounds. Hmmm... Maybe your are wrapping your hands too tight.

look up on youtube or in google images some info on how to wrap your hands. Also if you are having wrist problems then get some coach's tape and either tape up your wrists before training or throw some tape on over the handwraps around your wrists.

Thats great lads thanks for all the help , i will take it all on board ! .I think i need bigger gloves , longer wraps , to learn how to wrap my hands properply and possibly tape my wrists for some extra support.

My tecnique is probably wrong aswell as there is no one there to correct me , but i have boxed and thai boxed in the past so i remember the basics.

from my experience, you are probably wrapping your hands wrong and actually making things worse for yourself. I say tht because i usually hit the bag with 6oz mma gloves or 10oz bag gloves with handwraps and don't have any issues, and i personally do hit rather hard.
this pic below works great for wrapping hands, especially for mma. the only thing i do different is since most handwraps come with a thumb loop i go off of the thiumb and then down around the wrist once and then follow this graphis from there....

i hope this helps!!!
good luck!!

just make sure you are wraping them tight around the wrist, thumbs, and fingers to make sure your not getting any recoil on your wrist

thanks to the 2 previous posters , im clearly wrapping my hands wrong i wasnt even going in-between the fingers or nothing !

well there is nothing more yous can do now so thanks for that help.

I'm going to have to try that. That's way different then the way I wrap but I like the looks of it.

i just tried it , it feels better than usual , going to hit the bag bow and il see how it goes.

another q , on a scale of 1-10 how tight should you wrap your hands

Bag gloves are definitely not a way to reduce hand or (especially) wrist pain. They tend to have less cushion (which cushions your hands against the impact), stiffer padding (which prevents them from breaking down like regular gloves will thru heavy bag work) and less wrist support (unless you get a pair with good, thick Mexican-style velcro straps).

The best advice I could give you is:

1. Try lots of different ways of wrapping your hands to make them comfortable in the hand compartment of your glove with added focus on the wrist.

2. Make sure your form is good. Don't bend your wrist when striking. You want to be able to make a straight line from your knuckles down to your elbow. Most people I know hurt their wrist by going limp-wrist when they hit the bag.

3. Get gloves with more cushioning. Unfortunately, this should really be a last resort since added cushion equates to added glove break-down with bag work.

4. Rest a little longer between workouts. Add a day between workouts if your wrist is hurting. It might just be conditioning and you need the healing time to repair damage.

wrap as tight as you are comfortable with. the tight-ness is good for support, but the first couple of times you do it, wrap your hands and sit around for about 15 minutes. if your finger tips are getting cold, that's too tight.....
I know this style is slightly unconventional, but i originally started looking for a new method to wrap my hands for MMA because i have small hands and standard methods of wrapping my hands was making grapping extremely difficult.
Any other q's i can answer feel free to PM me. I'm glad to help if i can!

Edit: Double.

thanks for all that info , its a real help.I usually work the bag 4/5 times a week for 20 mins or less.Had to take a few days off though cause the pain in my right wrist was fairl bad.Cheers anyway man thanks.

I wrap well and spar, bag work and hit pads with 16 oz.
No knuckle problems ever.
