wow i had my first kickboxing tournament today in sheffield
won ond fight and lost two by suspect decisions but im still buzzin off the day was great
but one thing is bothering me i was fighting in the 85kg+ section and everyone seemed to be huge not muscle but tall im no short ass myself at "5 11" but they all seemed to have an hight advantage over me which iv havent come asross in training what tips can u guys give me on fighting guys with extra hight
cheers kami :icon_chee

Go for the body and try to get in close because then the taller guys will have a harder time to punch you.

I belive this subject have been up before, look in the sticky or search

Congrats, but 5"11' is really short ass for over 85 kg. my advice is get your self in a propper weight division, somewhere around 75 would be all right IMO.

Im going to be fighting sanshou soon in the -90kg weight class and I am 5"6 (170cm did I convert that right??)

...Sucks to be a fat dwarf...;);)

I guess it will be good experience when I do muay thai and sw later in the fall at a better weighclass. Im thinking 70-75kg somewhere... To be used to sparr with 110kg dudes in training and competing with -90kg guy got to be good experience to have in the long run..

Looks worriedly at my poor sensitive ribs... :icon_chee

We see how it goes...;)

Ya, gotta aggree with Kyryllo. I'm only 5'10'', and my regular weight is about 175lbs-180lbs. I train for 160-165 lbs.

Dude, your BF is really 25%?? I don;t meant to sound like a fucker, but you might wanna consider doing some extra road work. Unless you did your BF on one of those impedence machines, which aren't always the most accurate.

I get down to about 9% for a fight, and the the highest I;ve been is 16%, and I kinda freaked a bit.

Thats just me though. Some people don't need to worry about that shit (a certain Russian sambo guy comes to mind).

im trying to get my bf down but the weight dont seem to b moving my diet is good
what methods do u use to shift the weight ( dnt woryy thas y im here for help to improve a lil constructive critism is good

Your diet is NOT good if you workout, try to lose weight, and it doesn't work. A lil reading in the diet and supplement forum would do you good I suppose.

i'm 5''11 and 70kg and i'm trying to get up to 75 atm, i havnt done bf test but i'm pretty lean my guess would be probably 8-9%

when matched up against tall guys really work on your slipping and weaving i find i can duck under stuff a lot easier when im fighting a taller guy

I'm 6'3 and can cut to 85 kg to fight (185 lbs). Lose some weight or you'll be fighting guys like me with five inches of reach on you and way longer legs.

Its fun to hit people huh

Yeah, I fight at 81kg (ranging up to 84) and I'm your height (no idea about bf%, don't really care to be honest, I'm strong and fit at my weight which is the main thing-plus a six pack helps :D).

If your really 25%....I suggest you start going for runs mate and put on some muscle.

edit-whats your wind like?

the thing is im already quite built i have a little fat on the belly not an ounce on the legs or arms

Either you have a distorted body image, or you are closer to 15% than 25%. 25% is pretty damn blubbery on a male.

I guess I am really short also then at 5'11-6'0 220lbs!:icon_chee Fortunately with the HW's many guys are in poor shape when compared to guys in lower weight classes. You are right though... everybody I have fought has been at least 1-2 inches taller than me.

In San shou you could pull this off because throws count many points. If your wrestling is good you should be able to manhandle guys in your weight class because your center of gravity is lower.

...Good call... I do subwrestling but I aint exactly mr throwing machine yet...

...But "infighting", dirty boxing, shoots, a focus on my boxing and also some focus around footwork and stuff will hopefully pull this of for me... Anyhow it is experience, im not a pro fighter who needs to worry about my record and I plan on competing like a mofucka this fall to get lots of experience. Plan is to go down a few kgs between each competition until I find myself right at home...

...---Looks at big bottle of coke beside me..---

Someone said to get inside on big guys, but you gotta be careful and watch for knees. Ducking or slipping too far could put you right in line for a thai clinch followed by some knees.

...True, luckily no knees or elbows in swedish Sanshou competitions...

is there any where to post pics on here cos il show u wat i look like
and then u can see for yourselfs i also made a typo im 14st 11lbs not 16st lol
