I think so. Look at the Phil Davis fight. Rumble doesn't have any of that wrestling nonsense and his striking is top notch.

But I still think Cormier can beat Jones. And Jones would whoop AJ. WEIRD.

No. Subbed by Cormier pretty easily. Nobody is on Cormier's wrestling level in the UFC.

dude, theres ONE big diff between DC and Davis : the striking. And the striking is a BIG part of how you can implement a wrestling heavy gameplan. DC has the striking, Davis hasnt

Im not saying DC runs through Rumble, but Im not saying Rumble keeps the fight standing easily and beats DC up standing neither.

It would be a great fight, but I dont see it happening soon UNLESS Gus vs Jones ends up in controversy and they have to do the 3rd fight immediately after.

But you guys remember prior to UFC 150 they said there would be NO Edgar vs Bendo 3 right after the 2nd even though the fight was ending up in controversy, so I really think DC fights the winner of Gus vs Bones next, whatever happens in that fight.

Nah, he'd catch a beating from Cormier.

Sherdog has the memory span of a freaking goldfish when it comes to Anthony Johnson. DC would murk him.

I guess I agree with this a little -- DC's wrestling is definitely more effective than Phil's. But Phil's is REALLY fucking good; it's just now that AJ did that to him, we think it was always shit. I mean, Phil was able to get Machida-kun down repeatedly. Hashad whooped Phil too, but I think Hashad would be a tough fight for DC too for the same reasons: real strong and hard to take down, superior striking.

This fight maybe closer then anyone thinks. Rumble stuff all of Davis TD like they were nothing and his striking is much more diverse than DC. Whoever comes with better game plan takes the fight

I've seen ~8 Anthony Johnson fights, a couple live. What am I missing?

The Belfort loss was one of the stupidest fights I've ever seen -- Brazilian reffing and AJ's cutting problems lost him that fight. AJ's striking is fucking nasty and if he can shuck off takedowns like he did against Phil, DC would be in trouble.

Bacon Bits, old sport, I think you're guilty of having a short memory with respect to DC.

Cormier is a lot better than Phil Davis. Phil Davis is not a great fighter at all. I fully expected AJ to whoop him with ease and don't see why anyone was surprised.

DC is completely different. He's a true animal. It would literally be a beast of a fight bit I'd favor Cormier against AJ.

I think if DC got his paws on Rumble, Rumble would end up on that mat. I think DC via UD.

Nothings to say Davis wouldn't beat DC or Rumble in a pure wrestling match, but it's how you mix it up and keep your opponent guessing in mma.

Taking Machida down repeatedly = being 2/10 in takedown attemps in a fight

ok

Sorry my friend, but Phil STRUGGLED to take Lyoto down. He took Lyoto down at the end of the first and second rounds. Was something like 0/5 in the 3rd.

Phil has great wrestling but more and more his opponents know that they dont have to feat Phil's striking so they can see that takedown coming from a mile away and be mindful of it. You can also kinda see that takedown coming from DC but thats when you get floored by a right hand. See the difference?

Unless Rumble would KO DC early in their hypothetical fight, DC would take Rumble down at some point. What we dont know is how often/easily. And how would the standup sequences really go.

i think DC would have a more difficult time beating Rumble than he would beating Jones.
