Smiling Sam got screwed. His bread and butter is weathering the storm and getting the KO. I've never been so embarrassed for MMA (besides WMMA) as I am tonight. He should get an immediate rematch at the least or they should feed him Bisping so he gets closer to a title shot.

It was a bad stoppage. I agree on that.

Not even close to the worst ever, but still pretty quick.

That was an almost perfect stoppage. Smiling Sam was like Bambi on ice there and looked like a weak breeze would have knocked him down when the ref stopped the fight.

There was no point in letting the fight continue. Sam was just closing his eyes and windmilling weak punches in the few moments he wasn't either covering up or falling down.

If you don't want the ref to stop the fight, you have to do better than that. Suffering brain damage should not be your bread and butter.

I thought it was a bad stoppage.

But Alvey was sorta rocked.. He shouldn't have turtled up when he hit the mat while trying to recover.. Stoppage was his own damn fault.

Seems like almost everybody agrees the stoppage was bullshit. The only question now is if the ref will step in as quickly when Alvey is punishing Weidman.

Shane Nelson vs Aaron Riley. UFC 96, referee Rick Fike.

They rematched at 101 and Aaron won by UD.

Not quite. Stoppage was fine by me.

That's a risk you take when you look to wait out an opponent and they start getting off first. Alvey didn't do a single thing but eat punches with his back against the cage, almost nothing of note.

I really dislike Brunson and was hoping he got his clocked cleaned, but more blame is on Alvey than the ref. Maybe if he demonstrated he was more in the fight, the ref wouldn't have had to make early decisions about his well being.

Don't turtle if you don't want it to get stopped early.

    No it wasn't.

So after this I have to wonder, does Jacare stand a chance against Smilin Sam? I wouldn't put money on it.
