World #8 David "Humble Johnson" Branch wants to fight Gastelum / Souza loser

Seems like a fairly decent expectation. Good thing he’s not in WW. Nobody wants to fight anybody but the champ in that division. And the champ doesn’t want to fight anybody that is a true WW contender.

It would be a step backwards, even for the loser. But, the UFC has to start making some of these people fight. It’s impossible to always fight someone that is ranked higher than yourself. I don’t mind the idea of a loser in a fight with two top contenders fighting someone a few steps back. It gives them a chance to get back on the winning track. And gives a guy like Branch a chance to fight someone a few steps closer to the belt.

Makes total sense and is completely realistic.

Between him and Kelvin are Brunson, who he just mentioned he wouldn't fight, and Bisping who is retiring. Calling out the loser of a higher profile match isn't something you hear much from a guy with a recent win. Another possibility may be the winner of Belfort-Machida if they decide to stick around.

That is the epitome of being humble and understanding his place in the current standing of the division.

I'm surprised by how knowledgeable Jim Norton is with MMA. I thought he was a filthy casual who was picked because he had a name in mainstream broadcast, but he actually knows a decent amount, like your average Sherdogger.

Good to see a fighter calling for a reasonable fights and not something totally ridiculous.

The size discrepancy between Branch and Kelvin would be crazy.

Woodley has literally only fought true contenders.

I'd definitely be down with Branch fighting the loser of Jacare/Gastelum. Branch is up there in fight age and a win against Jacare or Kelvin could bring him into title contention.

The guy gave up two belts to fight the best... props. See if he can work his way up the ladder.

He has indeed. But he did not *want* to fight Wonderboy the first or second time, or Damian Maia after that. He's done a lot of complaining and campaigning for higher profile money fights but at least he did eventually fight the top contender. It's definitely not something we are seeing in other divisions.

He could always run the Rockhold fight back, and hope to ko him this time<Fedor23><{coachie}>
