Dude no-sold beating the shit out of Till, but broke down when Din Thomas put that belt around his neck.

ETA Here's Din Thomas talking about Woodley's promotion with Luke Thomas on The MMA Hour. (timestamped)

Cliffs:

  • Woodley has been training BJJ in the gi since 2006. He's trained under Din and Ricardo Liborio.
  • Din says that Woodley has had high-level black belt skills for years and that his top game is insane.
  • Liborio wanted to promote Woodley a couple of years ago, but Woodley hasn't had time to train in the gi recently because of his MMA obligations and injuries.
  • Slightly off topic:
    • Din is a third degree black belt under Liborio.
    • Din closed his jiu jitsu schools to train fighters full time at ATT.
    • Daniel Weichel is the only other active fighter with a black belt under Din.

it was a cool moment, hes been working at it for over 10 years so its important to him, also good on Din Thomas for not handing them out like candy like they do in certain gyms.. he had to earn that in real combat.

Great moment. He earned that in the best possible way. Good for him.

He got it for submitting a guy that seems to know very little about submissions.

Darren looked like your typical white belt

Ground game > Standing

<Moves>

So he's now officially a member of the black panthers?

That's just lovely, on the broadcast they cut the camera right before he got it and switched back at him looking emotional.

When he got dropped he was about out of it. Then he had Tyrone pound on him and exhaust him. I wonder why his submission defense wasn’t good at that point?

Beautiful moment, glad to see Woodley gettin his props.

You guys are nuts. I found the whole thing cringeworthy.

The only thing worse was when Neil Melanson gave Couture a black belt for beating James Toney. Neil clearly did it for self serving reasons.

Am I the only one who thought that was racist as fuck? If it’s a white super hero they call them cool names if it’s a an African American they call them “black panther” or “black lightning” this happens in all movies and other aspects of culture in the USA. Most people just call them belts but because T.Wood is getting one it’s a “black belt”?? Fuck this shit, Whats next? He is the BLUFC champ?? Fucking Dana
